Wait, is Vissershoek at the start now????

I am going to have to not eat till race day...

Hated every ride that went up Vissers at the start.

So while I may have been debating the merits of riding 99er, this has probably put those thoughts to rest. LOL

looks like a 3rd of the way actually... this was in 2020 at least. Not sure if this remains and why

Yes it remains like that. Only 400m.
Why?
People can't handle 9% at the end of 100km. C-groupers pushing their bikes for 10+ minutes to the finish line, and fun riders skipping the finish line and heading straight to the venue.
Would have been nice if they considered keeping the full climb for the Elites though...

the 1 race that finishes on a climb now  chopped a 1/3 of the actual climb...

Karens probably complaining further up the road.

I actually made up a few places in that 400m that i lost around those circles about 1km out.

But yeah, agreed on using the entire climb!

Come on man, Karens deserve their coke and medals too !

Honestly wtf, we’re going up visserhoek in that race… if you can do that you can do this climb, it should at least be on for the racing groups

I object

A mamil can still be in c batch or even d and sometimes e if he's late to the start and have a racer's spirit. Never walked up that hill in any event ever ....

And I also think they should use all of that hill.

As I recall from 2020 it had less to do with the Karens that don't like climbing and more with the public park 1/3rd up the climb that is now being used as a finishing venue. Think on the old finish they had issues with congestion & traffic at the top and the Karens were more likely the local residents that were inconvenienced by having loads of cyclists and hangers-on blocking their driveways the whole morning.

hey shut you mouth. i'm a c-grouper and i can and have climbed that thing after 100km no problem haha. I have one mantra when i'm tired and am confronted by a challenge like this...

So the rumours have come true.

New Route:

No Vissers!

i wonder if it has anything to do with the condition that visserhok rd finds itself in at the moment? That bit from hoogekraal to the signal gun turn-off just before durbanville is in really crap condition...borderline gravel bike territory with potholes and stuff.

PS, i've never done that new 100km route. might feel tempted to convince my wife not to come so I can upgrade and do that instead.

I actually quite like the new Kalbaskraal road - think it will be interesting, lots of rolling hills but no big climbs, going to be a fast race!

I have the KOM on that road from Malmesbury to Durbanville - that will certainly be gone after next Saturday 😂

That sucks. Climbing is about the only thing I do well on a bike and would often rely on this race to boost my seeding a bit. Hide in the bunch then attack on the climb, it was easy. Instead I'm now going to be massacred by the big strong men of Flemish ancestry from the northern suburbs.

Pansie...

That is going to a fast ride... should be back home before the family wakes up.

Should ride there and back then.

A brutal start followed with chances of crosswinds followed with some rollers has been replaced with a 88km warm-up. I guess the crosswind section is still there, but without the pre and the post obstacles around it that 6km section is too early in the race and not long enough to impact the outcome. The old route was one of my favourites. This sounds like a snooze.
