It's happening, get used to it.

Personally - I don't see the point of riding a funride on an ebike, I would feel zero sense of achievement. .....

Certainly a "sense of achievement" and ebike does not typically belong in the same sentence .....

That said, I still want to do the Argus on my ebike .... for no reason other than to see the full route on a bicycle.  I really dont care if I have to start at 10:00 in the last of last groups.

I have experienced the vibe as a spectator.  Would be awesome to feel it as a rider.

Also the relative safety of riding the route with road closures on the day.

You know I will take for a spin . Point is there are okes chipping their bikes and entering races while carrying an extra battery. Last years ctct had a rider finish in under 3hrs on an e-bike. No way that’s possible with max assist and 32km/hr restriction. So that bike was most definitely a non regulation bike. Yes they’re the minority which is why I don’t stress about them too much .

I can’t remember if it finished ahead of me but those bikes make a difference between top 200 and other side of 200. I don’t lose sleep over cheats but why embrace this form of cheating while hating on dopers. There has to be some consistency of argument i this matter

I agree, thats a no-go

its easy to point those riders out and ban them (not to add that it is against the law to de restrict a pedal assist ) well in europe that is.

There will always be cheaters ... mechanical or medical doping... easier to spot the mechanical ones though.

I can go show you some technical climbs that would be a absolute achievement ... even on a ebike.

Look at the E-EWS ... what those racer need to do on a ebike is a massive achievement ...

Seriously

From 2F and 38.74 average in 2021 to 1A in 2022

How is that fair play?

That bike must be derestriced ... so its not fair play ... I can show you a picture of the starting line of the tour de france ... i can assure you 1/2 of them are not playing fair either ... and most likely the Cycle Tour is South Africa's cycling history is anything to go by.

well that is a bespoke series of races for ebikers. No problem that. Continue, business as usual.
douche motoring his way to 1A and depriving a push bike cyclist of their life’s dream of starting in a potential Sub3 group….

JIP !! :P

I retyped that post a few times ... and added the "typically" because there ARE a good few rides I AM proud of, even though I did it on an ebike.  Riding up the STEEP section of the Gorge on the Herrmanus trails certainly is an extra special moment for me.

You just set new goal posts to test your limits ....   But that is probably not what this thread is about.

We going off topic ...

Should ebikers be allowed in the cycle tour ?

I'm still dreaming of some-day doing the 2nd lap with my wife on her Ebike so yes ;) Like I said, CTCT isn't just a race. Ebikes shouldn't race road races but should definitely be allowed to join road event as a fun ride.

Unfortunately until they allow kids on bikes it won't be possible for a few years ;)

Till they police it effectively,…NO

and that’s not a great position for the many legal ebikers

+1

Looking for trouble mixing ebikes and regular bicycles. Will likely change after we see a bad accident.
