Getting back into cycling now i recall many years ago a shop called discount cycles in randburg that sold me a chain lubricant that smelled like bannanas.

Worked great did not attract dirt i just cant recall what it was named and it probably is not being made anymore ?

I have the following in the Garage.(see attached)

Can i use any of these oils on my chain or should i rather get something else ?

I have heard someone say automotive oil contains detergants that will wash away oil in the chain so its not to be used. Is this the sane fir motorbike oil ?

The one's pictured is thin motorbike oil from honda 10w 30 then castrol 80w 90 which some say attracts dirt.

Castrol atf dx II which i use for power steering fluid and then a bottle of sasol synthetic m api sm/cf 5w/40.

Will any if these be good or rubbish ?

I am in the west rand area.

If i should get something else, what should i get.

Pop to your local Mica and get some Q20 chain lube.

Q20 is probably the worst thing you can put on your chain. It will suck and ingest grid at a rate that is very hard to fully convey.

Just pop into a bike shop and get some proper chain lube.

one thing to mention, is that replacing a full gear set is very expensive these days and regular chain replacement and maintenance will postpone that day significantly.

bicycle chain lubes come in wet and dry types. there are probably others, but those are the mains ones AFAIK. further than that, how you clean and apply the lube is probably more important than the actual brand. IMHO... for marginal gains, do a search here on the Hub and find out everyone's secret sauce

Q20 make a product called Qbike which is a dry lubricant:

Don't think the poster was referring to that Q20. 🙈

They also make a bicycle chain lube.

Perhaps that was what was meant by Q20? I know my son put some q20 on his chain after he has left the bike outside overnight. The chain was truly a sight to behold after one ride offroad.

We have been looking at doing some work with Squirt on friction measurements, and while I have no commercial interest in the company, I do like the idea of supporting a local outfit. Not sure if anyone has any strong opinions about them one way or the other.

This is not the Q20 spray, agreed not good for your chain ...Q20 bring out a chain lube called QBike lube its one of  the best i;ve  used however there always seem to be stock shortages ....apologise for the dirty bottle pic its an empty i fished out of the discard bin ...where bicycle parts go not used but you never throw away :)
