The good news is she  has woken up. A little confused still but heading in the right direction. Keep her in your prayers folks. This scare was a little more serious than initially communicated.

I am gutted for her and the support team.
Like, where to from here ?

Not too sure. Depending on recovery over the next few days and the outcome of the physiological tests undertaken the doctors will advise a suitable course of action which could include “a good to continue” or “go home and rest for a few weeks “ . No one knows just yet. Next visiting hours is right about now so I’ll get some feedback and share what is appropriate. I’m sure many people are interested in her well being.

I hope she manages to recover after a few drips. I mean 2 days delay is not the end of the world at this stage in the bigger picture.

I must say it has brought my mind back to the old tripper canoeing camelbaks. A primitive bladder which was a used drip bag that you back filled through the tube.

A few times I have ended up in fetal position knowing there is still hours of racing still to go and I have thought life would be so much easier to just chuck a drip in to make it to the finish. It takes a lot to get back up and go forward when you reach that stage. Hope she manages to come right soon

As endurance sport people I think most of us have been in the position where you need to go on a drip to recover from a big effort or heat stroke. I can tell you from experience, if 1 x drip doesn't sort you out, your problem is a little bigger than simply over exertion. To carry on from here without a full recovery can do some permanent damage to kidneys etc. Rather throw in the towel and come back and fight another day.

Am I right in thinking this was day ONE of the C-to-C trip?

If so, she should really evaluate her efforts / night riding, maybe, or whatever.

Even though Egypt is in the Northern Hemisphere, heat can persist; I was in DOHA two weeks ago, 37 degrees in late Autumn…

recover soon, Tegan.

Great to see and hear !!
But still in hospital, so it's too soon to ask what's next (like start again, or come home ?)

Totally spitballing here, but the month delay in Egypt meant conditions were even cooler than originally planned. My thumbsuck is that all the hype, build up, planning, anticipation waiting etc etc led to firing out the gun a little too hot. I am assuming there would have been goals for the first few days and maybe day 1 was a bit over ambitious.
