So what issues did Nino Sram have with his brand new AXS the other day...May have cost them the race?

Hugh, I don't recall this ???Ā  Egger & Baum (probably cost them the race) had a derailleur issue, not Nino ....Ā šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Ā

That too, but Nino had an electrical issue on Groenlandberg stage - Gerald mentioned it, and so did Nino in the post stage interview

Then I completely missed that.Ā  Wonder how much time that cost them and what was the impact on the race ...

I was under the impression, unlike last year with all the punctures, their only issues was that Andri simply couldn't keep up.

Nothing that cost them the race. He said a minor mechanical which was speculated as a derailleur issue due to it getting wet. If it was water ingress related the.man that’s likely a bad battery contact or it was wet when fitted.

considering that the race was won on new SRAM Transmission….

I know of another rider - Masters women whose entire AXS stopped workingĀ  - had to do most of the day as a SS and withoutĀ  the AXS dropper. Reinforces my view that electronics on a bicycle is a dumb idea...Ā

How many other riders have not snapped der. cables through the years leaving them to doctor a SS so that they can limp back over the finish line.

well I know from mechanics offering tech services that they worked on a lot of drivetrains through the week. Clutches particularly were problematic, and yes a few AXS systems were giving @&$!

And here’s the But…..

the AXS systems took less time to troubleshoot. In most cases it was wet battery contacts due to the battery not being wiped clean before fitting. The downfall of axs is leaving the bike outside under a tarp sans battery and then fitting it in the morning when there a lot of dew on the bikes. Moisture on the contacts can create havoc. So it’s a point of care that axs users should be aware of.

electronics on a Mtb is probably not the best idea for the weekend warrior. There’s not much that can be fixed save for replacing the battery and drying the electrical contacts. If it does bomb out then that’s it.Ā
super fast to replace one if you have the cash to do soĀ

Cool, so @HeadshotĀ can rest easily then when doing the epic ... while blow drying his toupe for his day out on the bike, he can also just run the hair dryer over the contact points then

Nino mechanical was never explained. I think it was Blevins who said it looked like he had a few issues with shifting but based on the camera footage he didn’t appear to have any issues with too high or too low cadence for the terrain. He might be under gag order from SRAM to not talk about issues while they iron out any glitches. The Transmission. Bits have been Ā  In pros bikes now for nearly a year i races and in training so I’m sure they ironed out everything major.

a mechanics issue could also be tyre related but it was fairly obvious they were lacking as a team. They shipped over 5min In stage 7.Ā

Yip, as a team they were simply not up for the challenge.
