Good points made by our pundits except for the hair drier comment - I don't own one... yet.

I fully agree that cable systems also f out - I mean recall those awful old bikes with multi piece cable outers - one wet ride and your shifting was shot - now with one piece outers they hardly notice rain or a bike wash. Of course its pretty easy to fit a fresh cable if it breaks  and its usually pretty obvious what the issue is, opposed to a mystery shifting failure on an AXS system.

Nino mechanical was never explained. I think it was Blevins who said it looked like he had a few issues with shifting but based on the camera footage he didn’t appear to have any issues with too high or too low cadence for the terrain. He might be under gag order from SRAM to not talk about issues while they iron out any glitches. The Transmission. Bits have been   In pros bikes now for nearly a year i races and in training so I’m sure they ironed out everything major.

a mechanics issue could also be tyre related but it was fairly obvious they were lacking as a team. They shipped over 5min In stage 7.

yeah, after that time with Bauke Mollema...

Have you seen the price of replacement cables .. may be cheaper to replace the battery vs a new cable :P

yeah and yet Jumbo Visma are flying with Red AXS and not complaining about power loss or poor shifting or any other issues for that matter. When not performing its easy to blame the kit

you jest but you're not far off when you consider all the other trimmings that goes with a cabel replacement these days. May as well replace he headset bearing while you have the bike apart

How many other riders have not snapped der. cables through the years leaving them to doctor a SS so that they can limp back over the finish line.

You Should change it just before an Epic Race.

When you try and do a cable on a new Scott you need to take the headset off anyway because of the innovative and oh so necessary headset cable routing...(said nobody ever)

I know of another rider - Masters women whose entire AXS stopped working  - had to do most of the day as a SS and without  the AXS dropper. Reinforces my view that electronics on a bicycle is a dumb idea...

Sram batteries were in short supply that day. Many people had issues and there were none left to swap out at tech stations.

If its the same team you are speaking of, they also broke a rear mech hanger the day before. Not fixable trailside AND they had the wrong one. Also had to single speed to next tech station.

Nope, AXS battery is R1500 .... 🙈.

I managed to get a used-new one a few weeks ago for R900.

Shop around. I paid 995 for brand new ones last month...

👍I wanted a spare and was not prepared to pay the std R1.5k price.  Found one here on the hub still in its original packaging, so brand new 🙂.

Now you know the back markers all change their previous years Epic for the latest Epic just before the Epic.
