Mine not part of the recall batches, but just take a look at how inconsistent the joins are.

That's the join between the chainring and crank, it is not part of the issue. It is not supposed to touch otherwise it would creak.

Please excuse my ignorance but is the replacement crank also "hallowtech" technology?

If so, seems like the same problem will arise within a matter of years

That would depend if they use the same method as with the mtb cranks it should be fine, I have never seen one of them fall apart.

I prefer SRAM to Shimano but don't think that SRAM doesn't have their own issues with cranks. I have had 2 carbon cranksets fail which is a lot given I've only been riding +- 10 years. Which is part of the reason for now running a "solid" Lyne AMP crank.

Well some good news , my crank is going to be replaced.

now the long wait for stock…..

Its going to be a container full, one would think they could use the space to bring in some other stock too🤣

The cranks that will be offered in the replacement program

IMG_4044.jpeg

The cranks that will act as replacements are non series cranks of similar construction and performance to the latest series type they replace.

FC09 is equivalent to  FC9200

FC08 s equivalent to FC 8100

What annoys me is the power meter replacement is now left up to the power meter providers

4iii issued a statement, if I remember correctly. Surprised Stages hasn't said anything on that front...

https://4iiii.com/press-releases/shimano-safety-notice/
Now this begs the question, does one take the risk and buy a second hand crank based power meter?

This is really good marketing by 4iiii. It should be noted that the left side crank arm failures are very rare but do happen so they've clearly calculated their risk in this regard. Stages is much more exposed to the risk here than 4iiii so I'm going to give the brand manager a call on Monday and find out what's going on.

It appears that in the USA and Europe Shimano is also inspecting the non drive cranks with power meters. I believe CH didn't even consider it part of their inspection so there is clearly a different set of exclusions for different countries.

Update:

I got the call from my lbs yesterday with the very bad news that my FC9000 will be replaced like for like.  :(

instead they had a moment of madness and upgraded me to a FC9200 !!!!

also they confirmed my stages Fc9000 pm Crank arm is marked safe from delamination so I can continue using it.

now who has had a 4iiii pm fitted to a crank arm ? How long did it take to Canada and back and have you had any issues?
