It’s worked really well for me.. very neat and no excess materials etc.. 

the rate I get punctures the tubes are never exposed for very long🤣🤣🤣

I have never heard of anything like the OP's problem - may we have a photo of you on your bike sir? 

Also - I have never understood the idea that saddlebags are unfashionable. Nor any of the other idiosyncratic aesthetic snobberies that the amateur participants in our sport are prone to.

Imagine an boot mounted spare tyre on a hot-hatch. No real reason not to do it, but it will just never be acceptable.

Sounds like your saddle bag is way too big or too full? Split what you carry between your bag and your pockets. As mentioned by others there are various options for carrying. Unless you're riding the Giro you don't need to worry abut unnecessary drag or bike aesthetics.

yes. 2 Infact during my ultra weight weenie days...

The one was the Specialised one that held a bomb and a few other tools on the seat post, the other was a lezyne or something that held a tube, 2 bombs and levers.

Both I hated for a few reasons:

You can't take an individual item out fast. So you can't just open the zip and pull the bomb and adaptor out and everything else stays in place. Or you go to put it back in and now you need to loosen the strap and readjust. If you slip with that strap then everything hits the floor all over the place. With a saddle bag it was a lot easier. 

The other thing was I carry smaller spares. Valve core, adaptor so I can pump up tyres at petrol station, quick links, dropout, 4x4 plugs. So with a saddle bag it all sits in one place. With a wrap strap you end up trying to strap in another small bag for these or box or storing stuff in pockets or elsewhere. Then you forget the other stuff etc, it is admin. Now: Every bike in the house has a multitool that covers it's bolts and it's own set of spares on the bike, all the time, you just get on and ride knowing you are covered.

Lastly was the bomb adaptor on the specialised one was just screwed onto the bomb with a spacer to stop it puncturing. Even though I tightened it as much as possible after 3 rides the adaptor fell off and was gone forever. In a bag unless the bag is torn it will still be there.

This also erks the daylights out of me. Let's attach a heavy bag to a dropper post and then make sure the strap is chaffing the stanchion tube as well.

🤣🤣 Was acutally done for the TB's race and i spent so much time gerry riggin git to fit so that it would'nt interfear with my seat when using the dropper post as well as the rear tire hitting it with the rear suspension

BTW - Do i get time off for having barends ? 😇

Yeah that’s fair.. it is limiting, I have to keep my co2 nozzle in my jersey pocket.. 

So I actually got it to run a second spare tube and bomb only, the other tube and the rest of my things in a top tube bag.. I’ve gone off the top tube bag because I’m getting out the saddle a bit more on my rides and it rubs on my knees.. it’s annoying..

but with one tube, a large bomb, and two levers, its folded up really easily, holds everything nice and tight.. I do however, think it’s losing its elasticity a little too quickly.. but still works great.. 

I haven’t had as many annoying experiences with it as you to hate the thing🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

I had the same issue and I stopped using a saddle bag. The thighs would rub in the saddle bag gradually till they got completely ruined. In my case it was largely my big thighs.

I just rock a handlebar bag for long rides and most rides everything fits in my pockets. My friends thought I was a weight wennie when the saw my naked seat post (pause).And the aero goons said I was losing all the aero gains with my haddle bar bag.

JA there's no pleasing all the people - I have seen a GCN test saying that camelbaks are more aero than no camelbak so I'm waiting to see if any of the A batchers are going to line up at the funride thusly attired .....
