Saw him train a few kms from his hometown on Sunday and then this spectacular podium spot in the desert up a mountain pass. The climb would not have suited too many puncheurs, even surpassing teammate Dunbar who is more suited to 15% walls in places.
Even the commentators thought it was Dunbar in the top 3. That would've boosted his confidence lekka lekka.

Looking forward to the Spring Classics and Ardennes where I anticipate he will show his class too.

I'm excited as well. If I'm not mistaken Jayco-Alula have been hedging their bets on Michael Matthews, who despite his age is still competitive in punchy and or reduced bunch finishes-see Milan San Remo last year.  But they haven't really had someone to go on the attack in the classics for a while. Mauro Schmid hasn't really performed how one would have expected in the Ardennes so perhaps there's going to be room for Hatherly to step up.

I'm really curious to see whether they send him to races like strade bianche and Brabantse pijl. I wouldn't be surprised if he finds a liking to those given his mtb history and the punchiness of the courses. Will be interesting to see whether they are going to let him ride a bit of the Ardennes, cobbled classics and semi classics or focus on one or 2 of them and let him refine his strengths as time goes on. Either way as you said, for him to have outclimbed Eddie Dunbar says a lot about what kind of form he's in. Exciting times!

AH 2nd on queen stage but still sits in 3rd on GC and likely to finish there. Respect

Alan & Eddie Dunbar (team mates) are 3rd & 4th respectively only by a couple of seconds, I would love to see them try something on the only climb left in this short stage race which is on Friday, but the reality is the sprinter teams will most likely control the next 3 stages.

I don’t understand how today was classified as the Queen stage when Stage 2 had more elevation? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Some how missed the final stage of the alula race... Absolute chaos in the crosswinds.

Alan got dropped off the podium as quick as he drop riders at Killarney every other week 🫠

Still very exciting to see him up there on the WT!

I happened to see a GCN YouTube "who broke Ineos?" ad Eddie Dunbar was mentioned as a talent they had let slip away and who could have been developed into, maybe, something very good.  Alan in good company.
