Under correction, but I spoke to Gent a few months who said he is on the "new" planning committee for the DBX, and that they made great strides in repairing the relations with the landowners in order for the DBX to return to most of its old route, and some new and exciting sections added. Not boring anymore, he said.

Is it possible to do the DBX on a gravel bike or is it strictly mountain bikes only?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

it's a mtb race. back to Wolvefontein too....Kevin does all the mtb stuff from Living Colour (trailhead+restaurant) and in the area.

For 2025, we’re taking DBX back to its roots! One of the event’s original founders, Kevin Wood, has personally mapped out this year’s routes—riding each one himself to craft an authentic and thrilling experience.

We’ve also worked closely with the local farming community to open up exclusive, off-the-beaten-path trails that are normally inaccessible to the public. You’ll get to ride stunning, untamed Darling landscapes—at your own pace, in your own time. We provide the routes, you create the experience.

From my experience of the trails in that general area it would likely be possible on a gravel bike but unlikely to be fun on a gravel bike

Looks like this will be an option for me next year. Was always a favourite up until the change of ownership / organiser / routes.
