I keep seeing adverts for e-pumps and have read a couple of reviews. I can’t find any threads about them and am wondering if anyone has had experience of them and whether you would would see them as an alternative to CO2 bombs when out on the bike.

Pick me!  I ride with a Cycplus pump in the jersey.  I have been lucky enough to not need it as yet but I have stopped to help another cyclist.  He had a flat, replaced the tube and then realised his pump was not on the bike. No issues to get the wheel inflated.  Tyre was a 650B and inflated to 45PSI (e-Bike).  The only thing is that it is not waterproof (mine shipped with a ziplock type bag) and they get quite warm when used.

Awesome - what brand do you have?

Got one of those Ryder ones for father's day ... haven't used it out on a ride yet. Only topped up a tyre to make sure it works and get familiar with it

First impression, convenient and cool you can set the pressure and it stops when it's done. No need to keep feeling the tire to get to the magic pressure ...

Slower than that quick burst with a bomb though... also like with bombs you're limited to how many times you'll be able to pump I guess. Even with bombs I always carried a mini pump just in case

I carry just the e-pump for my weekday rides, I'll take the risk that I'm limited by how many times I can pump. Can always call the 'team car' if I need a lift

On weekends (long) rides I carry a bomb and a pump.

I have been told however its a quick jump from e-pump to e- bike by some smartasses 😜

Just my 2c

I watched a review of one last night (flextail) that the guy said would give you 5 inflations from zero on a road bike tyre. The ball-ache for me would be that it’s another thing to charge, but I am intrigued by the concept.

Also, read up on how to use the pump.  You have to follow a special process to "top-up" a tyre on the smaller pumps. Here is why How do they work?

Also you can watch this video for some tests.

It is great for topping up or inflating a tube. Just remember it will most probably not be able to re seat a tubeless tire. Larger volume mtb tires might also be inflated only once before the battery is flat.

I have used mine for 2 tyre inflations on my road bike (both 32mm to 60PSI) and one tyre on my gravel bike (45PSI but a 45mm).  I don't think I would get more out of the battery.  I would also, most probably, have been able to do one more charge after helping the gent on the road.  So the charge is not that bad.  Charging happens with USB-C and I used my PC charger.  Plug hom in en los hom.

As to your question, is it better than bombs.  In Germany the general public looks on bombs (day to day, not during a race) as unneeded waste (it must to be recycled), so everyone prefers the mini e-pumps.  Personally I don't care.  I just like the thought of not getting up and having an oh sh*t moment after forgetting to buy more bombs.

The Gravel 45mm was to test the pump.  No testing = no trust.  The 32mm road tyres was after I seated the tyres and filled it with sealant (thanks @NotSoBigBen) and then inflated them to do the wiggle shake.

As for Joburg glass, you have NO idea.  It is Oktoberfest month and, even though you get deposit back for your empties, most roads close to venues are littered with glass.  But hey, PROST!
