I am staying in Gordons Bay this week and have also opted out of riding the R44 out to Rooiels and back due to the same concerns for my safety.

Tricky stretch of road at the best of times ... certainly would think twice before venturing that way over the holiday period.

I'm sure there's enough alternatives around Gordon's Bay.

Runners shouldn’t be there for starters.

impatient driver… let me guess…some hail adriver service?

I will not enter into ☝️ debate of who's allowed on Chappies or not,  BUT this toxic concoction is allowed by the toll operator and local lawmakers.

The brainless choices of all road users are condoned while the WC's coffers are stuffed with tourist AND local holiday spenditure.

Ja .the runner thing is a bit confusing ...chappies site says from view point to Noordhoek..

.Pedestrian movement between Lookout Point and Noordhoek Corner (km 28,6 and km 33,1) is prohibited at all times...does a pedestrian become a runner when he starts jogging!🤣??

Runners will not be permitted between Lookout Point and Noordhoek Corner (km 28,6 and km 33,1) during the following hours:

  • Weekdays (off-peak season)
    07:00 – 08:00 & 16:30 – 18:00
    Hours of darkness
  • Weekends, Public Holidays & Peak Holiday Period (15 Dec - 5 Jan)
    10:00 – 19:00
    Hours of darkness

So technically the runners shouldn't have been there...it was Sunday before 10am..

and the riders ahead of me were not in single file....

So everyone in this scene is out of bounds ..!!!

Well the single file thing is debatable because one could be passing the other or they’re using / owning the road to ensure a motorist doesn’t try a stupid overtake way above the 20km/hr speed limit on that section.

I don't understand, I thought the sign says that runners are allowed on Sundays before 10?

You are right, according to their website runners are allowed before 10AM on weekends but it all just doesn't make sense...this puts runners on that section on the road at peak cycling times...so you can't walk that section at all at any time but if you walk really fast and break into a jog...you can run it...and generally this is done running into the oncoming traffic for runner safety reasons but I have often had very close calls going down and almost colliding with runners hugging the cliff-side running up from Noordhoek to the viewpoint against the flow and direction of traffic...for the same reason.."runner safety"

Why not simplify it...no foot traffic from viewpoint to Noordhoek...

In fact...here's the solution: Ala Lake Garda....

This is lovely in a perfect world but our route would be bombarded with vendors selling chicken feet sandwiches and cellphone chargers…😂

Don't forget the fake Falke socks, Nikes and Hadidas running shoes to promote jogging along the route 😏

Trailer drawn stocks would be delivered by white walled D4D HiAce .......................... oh yes, once offloaded, the dingbat behind the wheel will make a U-turn to head back to "Slaapstad" to collect more fake merch.

We live way too close to Africa ........

Cyclists going on about a piece of tar that they seem to think was built for their sole use.

The car should not have overtaken, agreed. The riders also should remain single file like they are instructed to do multiple times on the ascent up that road from Hout Bay side.

Joggers should not have been there, agreed, for their own safety.

But everyone deserves a place in the sun.

Wees lekker.
