Well the amateur rider did upload this photo to his ride on strava:

So I'd imagine if jonas had just slowed down he would have done the same to get some better photos. That's speculation of course. But to assume Jonas could have just pulled the brakes to let him go past might be a bit like assuming a famous actor could just slow down and let the paparazzi drive away. Then he posts a self-righteous rant, most likely because he actually feels bad about it and is being defensive, or because he wants people to know he handled a descent better than a TDF winner.

I'd find it annoying if i was out training.

In fact its the main reason I didn't go pro.

He had a chance to take a pic at that speed? Wow.

His entire paycheck is based off of videos and photos of him riding and wining events. That is the entire reason for sponsoring athletes, to sell stuff. Photos and videos are part of selling stuff.

Same goes for actors, if you don't want to have to deal with paparazzi, you can choose to be a librarian or auditor or something else that avoids it.

Maybe - on the other hand he hasn't sold his right to ride in the public space unharassed - he's paid for his performance on the bike and his endorsement of products - I don't think there's an implicit contract that we buy the sub from the corporates running the show and therefore we own access to his personal space when in public.

Lots of hyperbole. It's not complicated, just don't ride someone's wheel. The same way you don't/shouldn't tailgate someone when driving.

*edit: To state the obvious, we're not talking about a group outing. But randoms, who often think they're being clever.

Jonas doesn't strike me as a rider with ego or entitlement, his reaction must be out of fear (for a lack of a better word) after his big crash from 2024 in Basque Country.

A headline I could get behind would be: Jonas Vingegaard crashes in training after being tailed by amateur rider, goes for a coffee afterwards.

IF I was that amateur rider I would be to embarrassed to mention it to anyone, let alone discuss / brag about it on social media, Strava or wherever.

When you as an amateur wannabe come across a seasoned pro or pro’s out training, just wave and smile, don’t try be a hero.
