Good Day All

This matter has been reported to Law Enforcement, who have ensured us that there are now four Law Enforcement members on duty, daily, between 14h30 and 18h15 on the section between Paarden Eiland and Woodstock.

We have also sent a C3 Notification to the City, to have the area cleared of vegetation and the fencing repaired.

Trusting that the area will be safer for the cyclists who wish to utilise this cycle lane.

Kind Regards

Thanks Hairy, but I cycle that area every day and have not seen any police activity yet, maybe to soon ?

We saw a very good presence from them yesterday on the lanes....3 x stationary cars and 2 x cars noted patrolling the bus lane. This was around 5:50pm

OK, I'm off to run one of the 3 mugging gauntlets that surround me. I can't not go, because that would be to give up life a little bit at a time. So, I'm armed to the teeth with pepper spray! See ya later alligator! Hopefully alive!

That's the spirit, if we start giving up little things then before you notice it adds up to a lot.

Agreed! And I am back, totally stuffed after a solid 5 hour ride. I must say that in the last hour I thought that getting mugged would be an acceptable way out of the pain. So, I live to fight another day. I did see several SANParks rangers on the front of Table Mountain, which made me feel better, but for the most of my ride I was very alone, especially over the lunch hour, and I felt vulnerable coming back home past the latest 2 crime hotspots near Rhodes Memorial.

Dear fellow cyclists,

I was attacked by two pedestrians on Monday 14 September, and robbed of all my belongings, except my bicycles and clothes. I just came from Paardeneiland and went uphill towards Woodstock Myciti station.

Two pedestrians were walking behind each other on the cycle path towards me. As I past the first, he said something to the second. This one lashed out and hooked my right arm, causing my handle bar to twist and me to fall hard instantly. I tried to get up, but they ran to me and threatened me with some sort of plastic or iron rod. They tried to get my backpack off, but as I was wearing a helmet, this was not easy. They yanked and pulled hard, until my helmet came off. They ran off with bag and wallet into the field between Myciti route and N1.

Please share this story with more cyclists riding alone, as this clearly is not safe any longer.

Ard.

BIKE MUGGING - Saturday 24th October at 09h30 - Oceanview Hill

On Saturday 24th October at 09h30 I was travelling in my car with my family towards Oceanview from the Soetwater turnoff over that small hill.

We were in the process of a conversation about our friend Kelson having his bike stolen when we witnessed a cyclist getting pulled off his bike by 3 adult males who attacked him with rocks and ran off with his bike. - Specialised Carbon

I drove at them hooting but they ran up the jeep track towards the reservoir. There is a boom there so I jumped out the car and gave chase shouting and bellowing at them to drop the bike..... the bike owner ran with me.

They started throwing rocks at us - we threw rocks back. We just kept chasing them and shouting while my wife, Jules, flagged down another car.

After about 400m they realised that we were not going to give up so they dropped the bike but they ripped off his Garmin 810 GPS and his tool bag before disappearing.

There was 1 larger male with dreadlocks in his 30s and 2 adult males in there mid 20s with short dark hair.

This place is perfect for ambushes as there is a blind spot and there is no cell reception.

We need to stop this ..... any suggestions? Maybe we need to set a few traps. I am keen to catch these scumbags.

all the best

Nic
