As received

IMG-20241116-WA0035.jpg

Send an email to Min Barbara Creecy, our esteemed Minister of Transport, they need to get Prasa and Transnet to commit to remove the vagrants from their premises. Also make sure to report it to Woodstock SAPS, so it can be on record.

TransportMinistry@dot.gov.za

info@dot.gov.za

The COCT Safety and Security Agencies can do very little, but to patrol the area as the perps just rushes through the broken fences onta Prasa and Transnet grounds.

We, as Cyclists, needs to unite and bombard her office with complaints regarding this issue.

" Vriend van ons Nihan was vnoggend so 8h se kant beroof. Hy het Helshoogte oor gekom vanaf Pniel en regs gedraai by verkeerslig op R44. Hulle het teen opdraend hom gegryp, kon net weg kom met selfoon, hy het bietjie stry op gesit toe hulle fiets wou vat. Die hele Stellenbosch area is duidelik nou n hotspot "

As received on a cycling WA group last night, seems  'old' hotspots in Stellies are being targeted again :(

Stellenbosch is a general sh!t show at the moment.
Carte Blanch did a whole thing about the students being kidnapped for quick turn around ransom.
Apart from the general high rate of muggings (and murders) in previously safe areas.

JP Smith has a new position post election.  At least there are new people in the Northern Suburbs doing what he used to do.  Not sure where JP is now ....

His position within the DA has changed but I'm pretty sure he is still responsible for safety and security.

Let's hope so.

He is no longer sitting in the same meetings ....

Semigrating from Pretoria to CPT next year. Is cycling from Melkbosstrand to City Centre (Bree Street) via the West Coast Cycle Path a safe and viable option?

Melkbos to Paarden Eiland (market area) is very safe, but from Paarden Eiland to City Center on Cycle path and N1 is a high crime area at the moment. Plenty of muggings at Woodstock bridge area.

Not really. Most of it is okay, but there's a stretch from Paarden Eiland through to the city that has been a hotspot for years. The alternative is to take Marine Drive onto the N1, but that has its own risks, and the area around the Woodstock exit has become a major hotspot recently.

Try and get a Harbor permit and use Duncan Road to get to City Center.

I think this may have been posted here already, but we should all try to comment on the City of Cape Town's draft cycling and walking strategy to highlight the safety aspects and encourage them to continue developing a decent cycling path network throughout the city. It's probably important for budget allocation.

We plan to adopt a new Walking and Cycling Strategy, and we want your input."

I have a harbour permit (for legit harbour business), and it works well; electronic ingress & egress, just watch for railway lines that run at odd angles (so NOT 90-degrees) in one area of the harbour, and be aware of the container trucks…

…these same 16-wheelers can be drafted, if careful/alert, does WONDERS for the H.R. …!

As others have said, fine up to Paarden Island, then you are left with a bunch of unsatisfactory choices.  One other alternative is to take the MyCity bus from Paarden Island into the City.  The catch with that is that although there are many frequent buses during peak hours, they may also be too full to get on with a bike.  Outside peak hours the bus works nicely, but you may have to wait a while for one.
