Yes. For real. Round about the year 1970-1975. The company's name was Foodcorp.

Wow!

It's a bit like the "frozen chicken" thread.

What does the public really really know about the production of food.

I agree Swiss. It's the only food thingy from SA that I truely miss. I completely forgot about it, but now I have cravings too. Plain Pronutro or the Banana one for me...

Fark, and biltong and boerewors roll like dough on a broomstick and a nice boerewors with some honey in.

Biltong and Boerewors I can get locally but alas kein pronutro. The billies and boere is pretty good stuff considering it's made by a swissitalian butcher who once lived Stellenbosch many years ago...

I used to use Pronutro as a pre race meal, added in some muesli, raisins, honey and all mixed with water.

I don't know if it's urban legend, but when it was exported to Australia it had to be classified as a nutritional supplement instead of a cereal (presume due it being so fortified)

It has more protein, less salt, more vitamins and minerals, fewer unecessary additives and more fibre than most other cereals.

Only snag for me is it has milk solids in it so I tend to mix it with water to keep my milk intake down.

You can see what the kids on the Hub were fed when they were sub-adults. Daar is niks wat by slap pap, melk en heuning met 'n stukkie regte plaasbotter in kom nie. Ek vlieg my eie voorraad mieliemeel in Nigeria toe.

Sub adult? Is that a new CSA category????

Slap pap might be the food of the nation but when it comes to ease of preparation vs nutrition value not much beats Pronutro.

Especialy when you have to get up at some silly time to eat before a race.

Hey JKP - Nice inside info there, explains why Pronutro is so nutritous

I mix 80 % water and a lil milk as well.

Pronutro is the bomb. Been a fan of the sliced banana trick for ages too.

Interesting story jkp, wonder why they can't make it cheaper then?

I know tigerbrands have tried a substitute product, don't bother its ***.

I still remember when Pronutro was used to market the Jurassic Park Movie on the boxes and you had to cut out the Dinosaurs from the flaps, I still have some of them.

do you remember when the weatbix boxes had the birds on the end flaps ?

There is another cheaper product than pro-nutro.

Our company been sponsoring ePap for a childrens home. Some our staff have been buying it for themselves ;) (I think I might give it a try.)

I am not sure if the following is urban legend, but a bud of mine told me that Pronutro was introduced to Aus a few years back and it was so popular that competitors tried to find a way to reduce the market share it had taken away from them. So they conducted tests and to their surprise it was so good they had to find another way. Now in Aus they apparently have a standard whereby Supplements have to be shelved in a separate section for legal and health reasons. So what the competitors did was complain that Pronutro actually fell in the class of a supplement it was so good. Hence Pronutro was moved to the supplement section and sales dropped somewhat. Interesting if it is true.

By the way, has anyone tried the new Future Life with Moducare? Really good stuff and it has 20.5% protein (19 aminno acids), 13 vitamins and 11 minerals not to mention the immune boostin gModucare. It also has Omega 3 and 6 and has a GI of only 55 (low). Choc tastes pretty good.

It seems to be...

I have hunted high and low for any reference to Pronuto being classified as such and have found nothing. Even the Bokomo site (the manufacturers of Pronutro) do not mention it. And you can even download a product PDF on it!!!
