  1. Haven't done the Shova on SS, but I did the 94.7 on a 26SS with a 44x18 gear ratio and slicks. Spun out a bit on the flats, but otherwise, seemed to be a good compromise.
  2. Good to meet you too. That Vassago is way better looking in the flesh. Pictures can never do justice to that paint job.
  3. I thought the route was top notch, just the weather didn't play the game. Organisation was good as always.
  4. Dude, respect! I could barely hold myself up after that climb, let alone a 14kg steel bike with one hand!
  5. Don't worry too much. I think the plan is to be a drinking team with a cycling problem.
  6. I have the weeride and I find that it takes some adjustment fore and aft as well as the height of the bar in relation to the seatpost to get comfortable. Once adjusted, its really great. My 16 month old son loves it. Just a note though, you might have to raise your stem slightly so as not to knock your chin on your child's head
  7. Oooooo, so excited about this race! Can't wait!
  8. Pipedream were also doing a limited edition 931 frame for a while. Very nice.
  9. 3x1 - 1xMany will be there.
  10. I built my wife a bike based around a small mens frame. Shorter stem, cut the bars down, specced the way it should be, all good.
  11. The Paragon style sliders are great if you changing ratios often. Both my steel SS and my Ti SS have them. Slightly different designs, but both work very well. I have a QR rear hub in the one and a bolt on hub in the other, no problems
  12. Im currently running the Racing Ralph 2.25 on my rigid 29er. Seems to be quite grippy front and rear in most conditions. I am quite keen though for swapping the front for a 2.35 Nobby Nic for some additional grip and volume in front.

  14. Ok, so I'm on the Natal South Coast on holiday and have been given a one day pass to go ride. Where do you suggest, Rocky Bay Trails or Vernon Crookes Nature Reserve? I'll be on my rigid SS if that helps any. Planning to ride on Friday if anybody feels like playing guide. Not going to be able to drive too far, so Cascades, Giba is out.
  15. 32x19 rigid 29er. Fine for me for most places, except where there are long flat drags, then I spin out.
  16. Never underestimate the value of a good wheelbuild. I have two sets of 29er wheels built by two different wheelbuilders. The first, Velocity Blunt SL rims laced to Circus Monkey hubs. The second, Hope Pro 2 Evos also laced to Velocity Blunt SL rims. Both wheelsets are running true. The first wheelset is flexy and twangy and the second is stiff and tracks true. I've run both wheelsets on the same bike and I'm around 88kg.
  17. I was a fan for 600mm bars until I built an SS 3 years ago. I couldnt understand why I got less fatigued on the SS until I started experimenting. Now, the sweet spot for me seems to be 700mm with a moderate backsweep
  18. This is how I carry my tools
  19. Yeah, rode Wednesday night on my own. Only saw riders lights in the distance. Didn't feel unsafe at all, but the night noises helped with the sprint training
  20. 1 x steel SS 1 x Ti SS 1 x steel vintage road bike 1 x 26" alloy hardtail (wife's) 1 x 20" unicycle
  21. Its difficult to describe, you get this dead feeling off obstacles, compared to the Niner fork which pops. It might just be the weight difference, but there is definitely a differencd in feel
  22. I've got the Kona P2 steel fork on my Unit and the Niner RDO fork on my Ti Pipedream. I've been riding rigid now for about three years and there's no going back. The Niner is on a whole different level. Both forks smooth out the chatter, but the steel fork dulls the trail a bit for me. I have 2.25 tyres on both bikes, Ikons on the Unit and RaRa's on the Pipedream. Thinking of going to a Nobby Nic 2.35 for the front or an Ardent 2.4.
  23. I tried a search, but I think the thread went south with the Hub crash earlier this year. Are the night rides at Modderfontein still happening? What are the details?
  24. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
  25. The wider rim gives the tyre a wider profile, and possibly more volume than the same tyre on a narrower rim. The rim bed gives better support to the tyre too, up to a point.
