  1. Up on the Witwatersberg this morning near home, checking out a 'nest' of spiders (above front wheel).
  2. I have seen people on a local dirt road swerve to hit a snake before. Then again in my town people dump their crap everywhere, poison the wildlife, destroy the water sources and complain about how the world is changing....!
  3. I hate to see this, I don't know why people cant just drive around or stop for a minute. I am no fan of a snake but they do have their place in the ecosystem.
  4. How does the front and back section fit together on this?
  5. As long as you are out there it doesn't matter how you get up the hills!
  6. Drifting around Magalies this morning. Said hello to a little froggy...luckily my 26in wheels kept me low enough to the ground to see him....!
  7. Some years back I worked on a game farm in Nylstroom (or whatever its called now..) and I went for a drive one afternoon with the 'game ranger' and our gaggle of foreign tourists... He found a rock python making its way across the runway into the rocky area and pointed out that these snakes are 'slow'. He got out of thew vehicle and approached the snake....It was so slooow it still managed to bite him on the leg and scare the crap out of everyone!
  8. I see them a lot around here as well, especially late in the winter afternoons ( I had one behind a plant pot at the back of my house last week when I went to feed some stray cats that hang around, so if you think cats keeps snakes away....think again!) Beware of the Boerewors snake....
  9. The walls of an old home, built from stone and slate, still standing after many years out in Koesterfontein/Goudkoppies....part of the old mining 'village' that was in the area. Located on the yellow route. https://www.facebook.com/Magaliesburgmountainbiketrails
  10. I used to live next door to Warthogs and cycled there quite a bit so it should be a challenging route if its done nicely. Rocky with some good hills.
  11. Some ofyou may have already stopped off at MogallyWood on your way back from Breedts however they are now opening a pub in Magalies (where the old Thatchwood used to be), its on the BekkerSkool road just off the R24..
  12. One question I am always asked when booking venues for clients is....is it safe...my answer? How safe can you ever be anywhere at anytime in South Africa these days? If all reasonable precautions are taken then what more can you do?
  13. Some venues i deal with give you 6hrs to pay and send proof of deposit. Most will do 12hrs but it's clearly stated what your time frame is and if you don't pay notice isn't given either. The booking is simply cancelled and removed.
  14. To the pub....! (Thankfully its just 6km downhill back into Magalies for me!)
  15. No issues buying or selling here over last 5 years.... Now my house that is up for sale is another story....plenty of time wasters there!
  16. Drifting around Magalies....
  17. Sorry to hear, take solace in knowing they are forever with you in your heart...
  18. Unfortunately no-one had claimed her by yesterday so we have found her a new home with a friend of ours with the stipulation that if there are any issues she is to be brought back here (the lady was looking for a small lap dog to begin with). After looking at the gate over the weekend I can only assume some muppet put her over my fence during the night in the hope we would give her a home and look after her...
  19. Opened the door to let my gang out this morning and they all raced down the steps...and froze! This little female was cowering under a rose bush. Luckily my dogs are not aggressive so we have had no issues but now the problem is finding out whose dog it is! She either just managed to squeeze under the gate (and I say just managed as we have some wire at the bottom of the gates as the collies 'roll' their tennis balls under the gate to play with anyone who is passing by!) or someone put her through the gate during the night. She is very tiny, looks like one of those mini Dobermans! She even managed to growl once when I picked her up! Been up and down my road and no-one seems to recognize her...quite at home on the couch!
  20. Early morning in Magalies with busy skies!
  21. Bonnie and Clyde tagging along while I did a bit of cutting back on the trail this morning....
  22. Our rescue Lucy who we adopted in Nov after one of our older BC's passed on has finally walked in and entered the (dogs) pool on her own....its taken 2 months to get her to feel trusting enough to do that. Soon the problem will be getting her out again!
  23. You just have to keep trying! Took me several goes over the years and now its year 5 for me. Just keep busy and stay away from other smokers and the pub!
  24. But what happens when power is reduced to the refineries etc? Will we in the future start to experience petrol and supply shortages? I dont know how refineries work but I am sure they are a massive load on the grid?
  25. Heading back home to Magalies on Saturday morning, lovely day, pretty hot though and my usual take-away shop was still closed so my last 20km's home was on water rations!
