  1. As long as possible, but as short as necessary. Mine is a 240mm, but go longer if unsure.
  2. I don't think battery tech is there yet for larger scale operations. That being said, I won't be surprised if we have a battery powered chainsaw in our fleet in a couple of years. I've found myself reaching for one of the smaller saws a lot lately when I need to work inside trees. Sidenote, do yourself a favor and get a Silky saw as well. My Silky gomboy does most of the sawing work in our garden, and I usually only start a saw when I prune trees. http://www.silkysaws.com/Silky_Saws/Folding-Straight_2/Silkys-GOMBOY-210mm-MED-Teeth-Hand-Saw
  3. Maybe look at a Yeti SB100? Or SB130 if you want a trail bike?
  4. Oooh yes please.
  5. It seems you may have a R1200 paperweight soon. It may be 35mm long, or it may be 500mm long. I'd suggest borrowing a stem to test for a while first. I had a 40mm paperweight as well, it is now in the co-op pool of components that a few mates and I have that serves as a second life for components (tyres, saddles, stems etc) that we didn't like, but someone else wants to try out without committing. You are worried about unweighting the front wheel, but when front wheel traction matters, you shouldn't be in the saddle, and your standing riding position will very quickly adapt to the new position. Or you will realise that it isn't lekker and that the 50mm sweet spot is really sweet.
  6. Anyone who has lived with a DW Link bike will understand.
  7. Maybe that will remind the motorist to switch to dims. The headlamp is more for me to see where I put my feet down, so it will be angled down. For trail running a bright light is a no-brainer, but our road surfaces aren't that great either.
  8. see SWH has something similar. https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/civvio-running-chest-light I've just dug this hi viz jacket out of my work bag, it needs a wash, but this might just solve my viz problem if it isn't a las to wear when running.
  9. How do you stay visible when running in the dark? I started a bit late last night and finished on the dark. Running down Spook bult in the dark wasn't bright of me, fortunately I saw neither cars nor ghouls. I have two headlamps that I'll test to see which one I prefer for running, but I reckon some form of hi-viz as well won't go to waste?
  10. I have a friend who only uses 30.9 dropper posts and then shims them to fit different frames. Nary a creak nor a slip. I'll buy the longest one that fits in your frame.

still planning a truce 5km from the finish line?
  12. I read that in my Faithless voice.
  13. Most people ride forks that are set too slow. Sobiwont be surprised if you liked the faster fork. It will be more responsive. And I don't agree with the RS Trailhead settings. At all. Go back to the fundamentals. Set the sag to be about 25%. Then you set the rebound to feel fast, and play with it on a chattery bit of trail and then redo that trail with faster and slower rebound (change one variable at a time) and after every run ask yourself "was this similar, better or worse than the last run?" And then work yourself into finding your sweet spot. And then start playing around with tyre pressures and do the same bracketing tests. And remember, what works for one person won't be applicable to another, even if they weigh the same.
  14. Wel dan gaan ons net spur toe. Ps: moenie my naam ydel gebruik nie.
  15. Jis I'm amped for this event. The Grease Monkey and I plan to do the Mouton's Valley loop on Saturday morning, followed by Buglers Post after lunch. We may have to take a shortcut on the afternoon ride if Mouton's destroys us, but we'll see how it goes.
  16. I used to be an inov8 disciple, but I tried an Asics trail runner and I liked it. A lot. So I bought it. Then my last pair of inov8 snuffed out and I needed a pair of road shoes, while not really able to afford it. I run more road than trail (Wifey prefers road, and she looks like fire in tights,) and I cringe when running road on my trail knobbies. So I bought a pair of Adidas Duramo off a sportsman's warehouse markdown table, and I'm enamoured with how nice they run. So much so that I will definitely try an Adi pair when I need to get new trail shoes. But when that time comes I reckon I'll pull into one of the specialist run stores and try on everything I can, because being a brand disciple (and a snob) just puts blinders on yourself.
  17. Now the other Yeti riders will see that you are not a real dentist. We saw you coming from that first pinkbike article about it. You didn't disappoint. Ps: your friends are jealous. Although I'll build my robo-jockey with a shimano cassette.
  18. I used to work in retail sales planning. We were able to drill down into the sales on colour and size level. And yet our planning manager always warned against getting lost in Analysis Paralysis. It's easy to get caught up in data, but damn it's lekker comparing my activities over time.
  19. The problem with hero flow trails is that you get humbled quickly when you ride a different trail, happened to me this weekend in Stil Baai. I got humbled twice. On the same corner. On a trail that I know....
  20. Where do you live? If in the Cape area, I'd take it to Stoke Suspension in Woodstock. Other options are Cogent Industries in Pretoria or Robbie's Bicycle Concept In PE. But you have a reverb, it costs arms and legs to maintain.
  21. The Origin of Trails is also one of the main fund raisers for the Stellenbosch Trail Fund. So there is a definite profit motif, and it's not a bad thing. Enjoy it, it is a fantastic event.
  22. Yesterday when I packed my toolbox into the trailer for the weekend, I realised that the little box for traveling wil cost more than a little sum of money to replace. Not too mention the Gedore toolbox and the box toolbox with all the random tools that doesn't travel with me. I'll need to take stock and go through it. Probably a good idea to update my home contents insurance.

  24. It's CSA. Don't expect fireworks, in fact, don't even expect the basics.
