  2. But it may go side to side with directional changes, and the bag is flexible as well.
  3. Does the nature of the load play a role? When we transport liquids, the ullage (space between water level and top of tank) adds an added dynamic load that needs to be compensated for when driving. Solid loads are lekker, they stay put. Now add a swinging, liquid load and I think the pilot's workload goes up considerably?
  4. That Graphic designer doesn't know the difference. Is that like a muff diver, but wiff a lekker aksent and an awkward oil smudge?
  5. "Fires that occur too often can in fact destroy seed banks as some species take 5 to 6 years to mature and shed seeds. Fires can thus reduce biodiversity, cause erosion and the death or migration of important pollinators and predators. Generally speaking, fires should occur between 10-25 years to ensure species richness. The best way to describe an optimum time between fires is a time when 50% of the population of the slowest maturing species in a given area has flowered for at least 3 successive seasons." Last big one was in 2015. But bear in mind that Jonkershoek has an MTO Plantation, and we ride on the MTO part of Jonkers. Bigger picture.... The hiking trails deep in the valley is part of CapeNature. Those are mostly fynbos. Different story, but still too soon.
  6. It's parked at Stellenbosch aerodrome. I've spent many a weekend morning there with my kids, the restaurant keeps parents happy, the lawn and aeroplanes keep the kids (and the kid in me) happy.
  7. On my Revelation I'm at 50 psi with two tokens. Way below manufacturer recommendation. Same with the Pike on my hardtail. I think I'm on 55psi sans tokens there.
  8. A note to the hubbers calling for a volunteer trail build day: Volunteer trail builders are pretty useful as free labour, so we are good at cutting foliage away, and moving soil, but when it comes to the finishing touches and getting a trail riding just right, then we need proper supervision and input from experienced builders. I built a pump track in my garden in lockdown. Two berms and a couple of rollers. It was very therapeutic, but after spending most of my free time for a couple of days, all I had was a track that didn't work. At all. I realised that the fundamentals like berm radius, angle and roller size need to be right from the start, otherwise you redo your work over and over and over. So long before we can help out with grunt work, Bennet and Co will need to figure out what can be saved and how to do it. So it be a while before we can add our bit of sweat to JH.
  9. Thanks for the clarity Bobby. And for all your inputs into Jonkers.
  10. Story time:A couple of years back spez SA put many bakkie loads of cash into Jonkers, but they didn't put any branding on any trails or anywhere. Then Scott SA put massive Scott branding on the coffee shop at the trailhead. Guerilla marketing. Spez called them out and invited them to put some money into the trail building effort instead of just paying the coffee shop for branding. Scott declined, and pretty soon spez branding appeared at the trails, rightly so. The coffee shop folded and the Scott branding went away. Spez still puts bakkie loads of cash into the trails, but also supports the trail builders, and Bobby Behan was pivotal in starting up the Stellenbosch Trail Fund. Edit: my timeline wrt the branding is wonky, but I still feel that the Spez branding in Jonkershoek is warranted, and if other brands want branding there, then it should go hand in hand with trail funding.

What he doesn't write is that his landies brakes haven't worked properly in years and that there is a dent in his firewall from him pumping his brakes before every stop. But he isn't sues Wether it is brake oil or engine oil in his driveway, because he doesn't know where to put in either of these and the Landy dealership in Sandton told him that everything is fine.
  14. Pure Savage called. They want you to slam that stem. All jokes aside, that is amazing. I wish you many many fast miles on it. All of them safe.

Relax, it's the 4x4 community. Don't expect them to to understand nor care. Their attitudes are the same as the mommies on Facebook and the manne around the tea trolley at work. If you cycle on the roads, then you are vulnerable. If you ride 2+ abreast or with a support car then someone WILL be mad at you. Dis maar een van daai dinge, and if you ignore them, then they can't steal your joy.
  16. Ask your local specialized store to order for you.
  17. Agreed. They are my second choice. Even my wife who gas small hands like them.
  18. There are more than 300 coffee roasters in Cape Town. So wherever you live, you are bound to be able to find fresh beans near you.
  19. I bought new flip-flops (plakkies) today, and there was a pair with a built in bottle opener. I considered it for a moment, but then I remembered that I open my beer with my wedding ring.
  20. The thin lock-ons are terrible. I've just removed the Syncros grips my bike came with and replaced with ODI Rogues. My favourite grips. You do get silicone lock on grips. https://bike-addict.co.za/products/redmonkey-grip-silicone-klampz-lock-on Wether they are as nice as the ESI ones I won't know.
  21. I've used Hair spray, deodorant and window cleaner. Best was a compressor. No I just use lock-ons. ODI to be specific.
  22. I saw that. Wanted to add a few pieces to my gedore blue set, but I will have to rein in my blue tool snobbism. I'm not working in a commercial environment, my tools are effectively being used to a fraction of their capabilities. So red will do just fine.
  23. Raak getrou. Your kids will learn to swing spanners with that set.
  24. In terms of compressors, flow rate is important for seating tubeless. I've been unable to seat stubborn tubeless wheels on the smaller 160L/min compressors. Mine is 220l/min and that seats tires. Sometimes they still need a bit of motivation but usually removing the valve core solves it.
  25. I wouldn't bother with a compressor. It's a white elephant more than a nice-to-have. I'm saying that as someone who has one, and used it so little that it now lives down at the depot with my trucks where it actually gets used once a month. It's noisy, and takes up a lot of space. Not lekker in a complex environment. For tubeless I have a Giant air reservoir and a big foot pump, when all else fails there is a garage close by, and I don't blow dry chains. If you plan to do spray painting or has another use for it then it might be worth it. I'd rather spend that money on better/more tools and a work stand and work benches.
