  1. i had an experience that completely opposite to the stories being told here and ill gladly punt the shop and it was an experience in customer service that still makes me happy. i broke a brake lever and asked the guys at Cycle Lab to help by ordering me a new one, i waited a few days and called to find they had not ordered yet which irritated me because i wanted to get back on the bike. the fault was mine though a i had not said to order a set and they were trying to et Shimano to send on the left lever only, they however apologised and placed the order. the levers arrived and i asked if they could help with a bleed and fit that day as i wanted to ride that weekend( they currently have a 2 week wait to get inot the workshop) they fitted me in no questions and helped me out. i arrived to fetch my bike and noticed that the price on the box was R700 more than i was told on the phone, to add insult to injury they had decided to fit a new set of sintered pads to the rear. i said to the guys you know i did not ask for the pads and had not budgeted on paying the extra based on my conversation when the parts were ordered. they did not argue with me for even a second and sorted out the price on the invoice, i noted at the tilll that they did make a mistake in the following ways: incorrect price given over the phone( the price quoted was less VAT and markup) R1717.98 vs R2400 odd pads fitted without me asking R518+- they charged me the R1717 and R65 for labour for the bleed and fit. they did not charge me for the pads or try to give me the old ones back etc. not even once did anyone try to convince me that i should pay anything extra etc, i was willing to pay-in and meet halfway but was not allowed to as they wouldn't hear anything from me about paying extra. i know guys have had bad things to say about the lab and yes the wheel size chart thing is an insult but they have me as a client for life as they did everything with a smile and made me feel good about spending money in their shop even when they made a mistake they admitted it and made right and that takes a hell of a lot of balls in the current SA state of service or lack thereof we see all too often. sorry about the hijack but thats my little rave about customer service and how to treat a client based on comments in the thread.
  2. I do almost all my own work, the only thing a shop sees from me is suspension servicing. a word of warning though from an insurance perspective( i know as i had a recent incident where i needed to claim) if you do not have a service record( with a bike shop) and do your own servicing( i know i do a better job than most shops anyway) an insurer could refute your claim, for example a broken chain wrapped round a dérailleur causing a plate of spaghetti and spare parts may be viewed as inadequately maintained and hence a failure being your fault. ( this is probably a bad example but you get my point) i haven't heard of any insurer doing this and am not saying its happened, however i was advised by my assessor that a service record or certification of sorts, if you do your own, is required in terms of properly maintained running gear. sort of like your car. just cause you can change the oil doesn't mean you should according to them.
  3. you have a valid point but a photographer should not try pay off all his equipment from 1 race!!! it also comes down to economies of scale, if it was my business i would rather have a thousand photos bought at R15 than 10 at R45, yes i know there is more to it but if you are serious about your business and your quality speaks for itself a lower price point embeds you with the clients better than a higher one. thats my humble 20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 zim dollars( soon to be rands) worth anyway.
  4. VIDA!!!!, just be aware its a full on pit stop for plenty so there may be cues etc. always a good stop for me, coffee is top notch food is great and i love the stuff the staff shout when you enter, order etc. bit arb but very cool.
  5. by something else and make them someone else's problem!!!!
  6. Craigwt, international trade are the local agents, give them a call, ask for Jacques or Jason. 011 781 5324
  7. sealant, sealant, sealant. that's only thing that's going to fix the holes, cant for the life of me figure why a shop would seat the tire and not add sealant to inflate before giving it to you but hey that me. stans, air ride, as per what chukky said.
  8. I did the Berg n Dale this weekend and was completely ashamed at the attitude of some riders, I am very vocal and had several heated discussions with cyclists that had thrown things down while riding, I approached the first culprit and politely said to him as I passed, " you dropped your wrapper" I got a blank stare so I repeated and saw him start to look slightly annoyed and embarrassed. I had a puncture an was passed by the same guy who no more than 10 min later did the same thing. that's when I gave up being polite an d called him a F***ing pig as I rode passed, this turned into a heated argument. I have reported him to the race organisers for this as well as several others I saw doing similar things on the road thanks to their race numbers, whether or not anything will happen to them or not I don't know. I am completely disgusted to be called a cyclist after this weekend. littering is one of my biggest bug bears and this kind of behaviour pisses me off more than I can actually describe. I think we should create a stick thread and name and shame with numbers and names if people posting are willing to get them from the race organisers, I know I am, but doubt though this will do anything as the hub is a small place compared to the cycling community and lets face it people that have no shame in littering probably aren't going to take any notice anyway. personally I think if we as a cycling community take numbers and report to the race organisers a fine of R500 should be issued to the rider and no entry to the next event with their chip should be allowed till the fine is paid. that's a little utopian I know but I think its a great idea.
  9. i disagree on the safety parade comment, if that was the case they would have removed from the jump side not the landing side, what these ****** dont seem to understand is without the landing most riders are going to get seriously hurt, it takes great skill and a sufficient amount of speed to execute a landing 3-5 odd feet longer than was initially planned. i had an experience in Emmarentia on the gap jump that goes over the stream where i launched and only realised mid air the lip and landing had been destroyed, i landed mid gap and endo'ed badly into the bank, was very lucky my speed carried me in a roll to safetly but if i had hit head first i am sure i would have broken my neck. what makes it worse is the material making up the lip and landing was laying in the stream hence it was destroyed not for anything other than hurting someone!!!
  10. ride, WTF i thought we were drinking and laughing??
  11. what time we meeting boys and girls? still at fratellis parking lot?
  12. I picked up a new frame and some new tows to go with my new ride, ok a second hand new frame but new to me. very happy
  13. as far as i am aware its a retention device to stop the chain dropping off on the inner side of the blades. dont know of the effectiveness or what sort of set-up its intended for though, i would suspect its for a 3x9/10 set-up where the granny has been removed to create a 2x9/10 without an actual 2x9/10 shifter. as i say thats a complete guess.
  14. sorry meant to add to check first, i have had experience in the past that doesn't allow for the bushings to be used but as patches says he has had luck so you may be lucky.
  15. Sorry the short answer is no it won't fit. The Fox and rs have different bushing diameter's. Your lbs should be and to order tmr correct ones for you if they don't have in sock.
  16. i am on a classic saver, hit a tree square in the hip about 6 or so months ago at 50 odd km and hour, was completely trashed, went to sandton mediclinnic and was seen in the casualty, everything came out of my MSA till there was nothing left and then the bills started coming, total for the visit was R7300 and some change. MSA covered about half of that. i had to pay the rest.
  17. spin the wheel and make a note of where the bend in the rotor is i mark with a whiteboard marker, then use a disc straightening tool if you have one( am guessing from the post you dont) or a shifting spanner to bend in the opposite direction. before going that route though try using your hands and thumbs to push where the bend is( it takes surprisingly little force to bend the rotor so be careful) its unlikely you will get it perfect but you should be able to get it straight enough not to hear the rubbing anymore.
  18. an alternative is if you have an IS to Post calliper mount you could put a washer between the calliper spacer and the frame, if its post mount you will need to move the disc as you are trying to do. just a thought as its guaranteed to be easier to go to builders and use a washer than try move the disc.
  19. i was about to say, WHY?
  20. Bwhahahahaha talk about "loving" your sport
  21. like that idea, perhaps wident o format to include things like headset replacement with home made tools, oh and of coarse LAGER as well
  22. lol dont forget the gimp chains i lent you
  23. hey hey hey, what about me i want to throw advice / useless information from the sidelines as well, chukky can attest to the fact i am very good at it, and i like breakfast beer as well ill bring the gopro
  24. i vote no to the new cup of stans/ sealant, this is supposed to be a trail side fix, unless you ride with an extra bottle of sealant or happen to burp in front of a bike shop/ sportsmans etc you need to use whats in the tire at the time. just my 2c though, am game to come watch, Sean send me an invite ill be there.
  25. thanks you for the pic, was wondering what the hell you meant, couldn't for the life of me figure it out from the description. not going to add much value to this thread over what the guys have already said but for me if i loose all pressure, i tube it and ride home, bombs make too much of a mess with the sealant and honestly if the incident (whatever that may have been ) has caused a complete loss of pressure i am sure the fix is going to burp again so rather not walk. i always carry a spare tube and at least 3 bombs, always seem to be giving them away and not using them myself though .
