  1. You my friend are an idiot, you do realise your first post on yhe hub is in defense of 2 people that admitted guilt, the hub has been alive with this topic for over a week now. Statement of the year, had to put my beer down to stop from spilling it I was laughing so hard
  2. Closing down fire sale at Cs tomorrow by looks of that report
  3. I cant wait fornthe cb story, these okes must fry, all i know is if devi arrives at your door you are stuffed. Close shop and go home cause she doesnt take *** from anyone and only takes the most hectic okes on. This is going to be great. Popcorn and beer ready
  4. hold on just a minute i am confused and here is why. there is more space on that road than most i have seen. the yellow line which has been measured to be painted looks to be about 2m wide. the car just about to pass the cyclists looks to be about 1m from the potential yellow line. while i am not a fan of riding 2 abreast this really looks to be a case of what the hell where you thinking when you decided to stop and give 2 guys out for a peddle crap about it. i dont know the rd or the area and dont know if ahead or behind them the road is narrower than it is in the pic this makes no sense to me at all. maybe i am just not understanding rant properly
  5. thats a frikken good idea of what to do with all those stupid bloody balance bracelets everyone has lying around, rebrand and sell
  6. did a 20 odd this morning from pnp up to alberts, its all good, one or 2 soft areas but nothing hectic, the landscape though is badly scared from all the riding which has stopped the land from repairing properly in most areas, nothing we can do about that unfortunately. no mud to speak of and still great fun.
  7. i wsh after every single ride unless its laet at night and i am riding the next day. geneally use clean green or prepsol if i have some in the house, witha std garden hose, no high pressure washer>>>>EVER!!!!!. if it really muddy and i dont have time to do a full wash its a quick hose down to get all the crap off before my next ride is a bare minimum. generally give the bike a wash and dry with a towl and a little baby oil on the frame to make sure it shines like a showroom model, drivechain gets a full degrease once or twice a month and then fresh grease where required and some dry lube on the chain in case i forget before i start my next ride. has worked for me for 5 years and i generally have the cleanest looking bike at the start of each ride. my mrs bike get the same as mine when used. road bikes get the same treatment but less frequently as the are generally cleaner than our MTB's.
  8. i think a few hears ago the differences were quiet clear but now its not the case, thanks to tech filtering down over the years the entry level stuff is actually very good. the big difference is in weight( and yes still a little tech but its only because the top end stuff has all the new bits on) routjie has possibly the best you could put together, personally i would go for XT shifters though as i just cant see the value in spending XTR money for my kind of riding, i believe the xt is more durable due to having more weight behind its parts.
  9. STOP SMOKING!!!! start there and work out the rest while on the bike, set your own goals and measure yourself against them vs what other people tell you you should do.
  10. I dont have a mud guard solution for you but I have a work around for you, I used a small spring, half of the one you might find in a bic pen to keep the ink cartridge in place is what I used, put it between the actuation lever and the cable stop. It doesn't stop the mud getting in but does help prevent the cable getting stuck so the seat will move or not when you need it to at least till the end of your ride till you can clean it out.
  11. thats odd cause the road is the only place a 29er belongs
  12. Check he doesnt have a clutch rear derailleur, that makes it stiff so as to avoid chain slap.
  13. always had a great experience in store with the guys there but their follow up service sucks, several times i have asked for pricing or parts to be ordered as they didnt have in stock and was told they will call with pricing or when the item arrives and NADA. first time i let it go, second i was annoyed third i just gave up completely and ordered from somewhere else. will go there as a last resort as they offer to help with whatever they can in store, but for anything i know is likely to require an order i dont even bother.
  14. if there is side to side play the bearings or bushings are probably worn, you should replace asap as the side to side movement is not what the frame is designed to handle, while it may not lead to a failure i am pretty sure its going to cause faster wear which will cause more play and eventually a break of some sorts. i am no engineer though i just know from taking my rear triangle apart the other day( on a ransom though not spez)
  15. i finally have a bike i can post here.
  16. i had an experience that completely opposite to the stories being told here and ill gladly punt the shop and it was an experience in customer service that still makes me happy. i broke a brake lever and asked the guys at Cycle Lab to help by ordering me a new one, i waited a few days and called to find they had not ordered yet which irritated me because i wanted to get back on the bike. the fault was mine though a i had not said to order a set and they were trying to et Shimano to send on the left lever only, they however apologised and placed the order. the levers arrived and i asked if they could help with a bleed and fit that day as i wanted to ride that weekend( they currently have a 2 week wait to get inot the workshop) they fitted me in no questions and helped me out. i arrived to fetch my bike and noticed that the price on the box was R700 more than i was told on the phone, to add insult to injury they had decided to fit a new set of sintered pads to the rear. i said to the guys you know i did not ask for the pads and had not budgeted on paying the extra based on my conversation when the parts were ordered. they did not argue with me for even a second and sorted out the price on the invoice, i noted at the tilll that they did make a mistake in the following ways: incorrect price given over the phone( the price quoted was less VAT and markup) R1717.98 vs R2400 odd pads fitted without me asking R518+- they charged me the R1717 and R65 for labour for the bleed and fit. they did not charge me for the pads or try to give me the old ones back etc. not even once did anyone try to convince me that i should pay anything extra etc, i was willing to pay-in and meet halfway but was not allowed to as they wouldn't hear anything from me about paying extra. i know guys have had bad things to say about the lab and yes the wheel size chart thing is an insult but they have me as a client for life as they did everything with a smile and made me feel good about spending money in their shop even when they made a mistake they admitted it and made right and that takes a hell of a lot of balls in the current SA state of service or lack thereof we see all too often. sorry about the hijack but thats my little rave about customer service and how to treat a client based on comments in the thread.
  17. I do almost all my own work, the only thing a shop sees from me is suspension servicing. a word of warning though from an insurance perspective( i know as i had a recent incident where i needed to claim) if you do not have a service record( with a bike shop) and do your own servicing( i know i do a better job than most shops anyway) an insurer could refute your claim, for example a broken chain wrapped round a dérailleur causing a plate of spaghetti and spare parts may be viewed as inadequately maintained and hence a failure being your fault. ( this is probably a bad example but you get my point) i haven't heard of any insurer doing this and am not saying its happened, however i was advised by my assessor that a service record or certification of sorts, if you do your own, is required in terms of properly maintained running gear. sort of like your car. just cause you can change the oil doesn't mean you should according to them.
  18. you have a valid point but a photographer should not try pay off all his equipment from 1 race!!! it also comes down to economies of scale, if it was my business i would rather have a thousand photos bought at R15 than 10 at R45, yes i know there is more to it but if you are serious about your business and your quality speaks for itself a lower price point embeds you with the clients better than a higher one. thats my humble 20000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 zim dollars( soon to be rands) worth anyway.
  19. VIDA!!!!, just be aware its a full on pit stop for plenty so there may be cues etc. always a good stop for me, coffee is top notch food is great and i love the stuff the staff shout when you enter, order etc. bit arb but very cool.
  20. by something else and make them someone else's problem!!!!
  21. Craigwt, international trade are the local agents, give them a call, ask for Jacques or Jason. 011 781 5324
  22. sealant, sealant, sealant. that's only thing that's going to fix the holes, cant for the life of me figure why a shop would seat the tire and not add sealant to inflate before giving it to you but hey that me. stans, air ride, as per what chukky said.
  23. I did the Berg n Dale this weekend and was completely ashamed at the attitude of some riders, I am very vocal and had several heated discussions with cyclists that had thrown things down while riding, I approached the first culprit and politely said to him as I passed, " you dropped your wrapper" I got a blank stare so I repeated and saw him start to look slightly annoyed and embarrassed. I had a puncture an was passed by the same guy who no more than 10 min later did the same thing. that's when I gave up being polite an d called him a F***ing pig as I rode passed, this turned into a heated argument. I have reported him to the race organisers for this as well as several others I saw doing similar things on the road thanks to their race numbers, whether or not anything will happen to them or not I don't know. I am completely disgusted to be called a cyclist after this weekend. littering is one of my biggest bug bears and this kind of behaviour pisses me off more than I can actually describe. I think we should create a stick thread and name and shame with numbers and names if people posting are willing to get them from the race organisers, I know I am, but doubt though this will do anything as the hub is a small place compared to the cycling community and lets face it people that have no shame in littering probably aren't going to take any notice anyway. personally I think if we as a cycling community take numbers and report to the race organisers a fine of R500 should be issued to the rider and no entry to the next event with their chip should be allowed till the fine is paid. that's a little utopian I know but I think its a great idea.
  24. i disagree on the safety parade comment, if that was the case they would have removed from the jump side not the landing side, what these ****** dont seem to understand is without the landing most riders are going to get seriously hurt, it takes great skill and a sufficient amount of speed to execute a landing 3-5 odd feet longer than was initially planned. i had an experience in Emmarentia on the gap jump that goes over the stream where i launched and only realised mid air the lip and landing had been destroyed, i landed mid gap and endo'ed badly into the bank, was very lucky my speed carried me in a roll to safetly but if i had hit head first i am sure i would have broken my neck. what makes it worse is the material making up the lip and landing was laying in the stream hence it was destroyed not for anything other than hurting someone!!!
  25. ride, WTF i thought we were drinking and laughing??
