  1. I think so, it's usually engraved or stamped into the bottom. I've got pictures of my bike serial numbers for record purposes.
  2. The problem with the bottom pics from the OP and the idea for something lockable, how many roadies (READ: weight weenies) have you seen riding around with a bike lock/chain around the seat post lately? I think the idea would be to ensure that the bikes are parkable close to where the guys are going to be seated and in full view. Like with most places, leave your bike at your own risk?
  3. The nerve of these bastards riding it around so flippantly in plain view of everyone. It just goes to show that most of these idiots don't get caught and they all know it! I wonder how many other affirmative shoppers we pass in traffic without being able to stop and check ride around our suburbs unchecked. Hoping for a speedy and successful outcome on this one.
  4. Keep us posted, this is crazy that the wires seem to be outside their boundary wall. At the very least, they should be hanging something on the wires to warn the peeps.
  5. Pics please, I don't see 'em Glad you OK BTW
  6. Cool, that's the plan.
  7. Hope this is the right thread for this question. I have a 26"er that has been gathering dust in my garage for some time. I am on a very tight budget to get this bike going as my first single speed. I'm removing paint and leaving the bike and all bits I can as plain polished aluminium and using as many parts as I can from the original bike (cost issue). My question is, not needing gears, I'm stuck with a lot of cable guides that were there for the gear cables. Is it going to be a problem if I just cut them off and sand smooth or is there something I'm missing? This is my first project of this nature so I'm going in a bit blind here, any ideas would be much appreciated.
  8. What a lag, I went to boarding school and if someone was stupid enough to show a little crack in the dining hall, it was taken as an invitation to pour a little milk or even juice into the offending cavity. In my five years as a boarder, it never got old.
  9. I would say split it up, you should get more for it, but more admin too.
  10. sheesh, with man boobs like that shouldn't he be participating in the reed dance?
  11. Not sure of this, never heard of it. They are one day after each other, you sure you want such a hectic recovery the next day?

    Polar V800

Not sure that Polar SA allows direct orders. I'm sorry that they took so long to come to the party with GPS integration, I ended up changing my Polar CS600x for a Garmin Edge 510 and my Polar RCX5 with a Garmin 910XT(subsequently given to my Mrs. and replaced with a Feinx 2). Both the Polars were linked to my little GPS5 unit. The only reason I made the change was that being my forgetful self I often forgot to either charge the GPS unit or if I did forgot to take it out the house with me. I prefer the Polar interaction with PC as well as user, I still miss the Polar units, but I'm not about to make the change all over again having spent more than my wife realizes on "Garminising" my life. :whistling: Polar service in SA is also up to sh~t which Garmin has fixed very well. The difference I noticed was that Polar required backup far less frequently than any of my Garmins ever have.
  13. I wonder how this works considering if the trail is adequately marked and maintained there should be no liability in the first place. I imagine that in the event of this cover being issued, there would be some level of disclaimer required at the starting point of the trail letting all know that if they run out of skill it's their problem? I also guess that liability would be difficult to prove in most cases unless of course a tree or something like that falls on a visitor in which case some level of proof would be required to establish that the tree was about to fall down and no-one did anything about it. In this case surely the insurance would be nullified because the required level of maintenance was not carried out and the insured would be responsible for any claim? Could this explain why membership to IMBA and included insurance is not so steep, because a claim will most likely not be paid to readily? I'd like to see this policy wording.
  14. I must say that when my wife bought her first bike from them we rode with them for a few rides and the "instructor" was great at getting the newbies into the gears and all the rest of the stuff that was required to enjoy your riding. I tried a few cradle rides and once you find the right group, the marshaling and safety in numbers provided by the groups was fantastic. As with any group event you're always going to encounter a few tonsils and this was no different but for the most part it was something well worth the cost. I never tried the MTB groups but I have encountered them on a few rides I did on my own and the fact that there looked to be safety in numbers appealed to me a lot. Just never got around to joining. From what I gather and it could have changed, the R1K is for the first year and bibs and the renewals are cheaper going forward unless you require new kit.
  15. I've had a serious off in a Bell Slant and it saved me big time, they also have a replacement policy that costs around R300 if it's damaged in an accident. I currently use a Rudy Project Zuma and I must say it's a little disappointing as far as comfort is concerned. Bottom line, this is probably the most important piece of bike equipment you will buy so make sure not to take a short cut (read: cheap option) . IMHO of course...
  16. I've gone through who knows how many regulators, this is an important little tool to have working properly.
  17. You will not regret it. In 6,000km with tubes I was lucky to only have around 5 punctures. Since then, not sure of the km's, but I've had one which I plugged and was back on the bike within minutes. I paid around R750 per tire and about R500 for the conversion. I waited until I needed new tires to do it so I did not feel like I was wasting a perfectly good set of tyres during the upgrade. If I can make a suggestion though, don't worry about the weight and get a tire with a decent side wall, once that's gone the tire is toast.
  18. AFAIK this cover only offers cover for your loss in the event of fire or theft and not in the event of an accident. In this day and age, knowing the perils we face on the roads every day, I cannot understand why one would neglect to cover themselves for an accident unless they are certain they will never be in the wrong or that the other driver will always have insurance. But back to the case in point, I'd go after this idiot, he skipped a stop and wiped out your car. If there had been a fatality, would he then get to absolve himself of some or all of the guilt based on this apportionment rule? Doesn't make sense to me.
  19. I saw something along the lines of: "A Woman will pay R1,000 for a R1,400 item she does not need because it's on sale, whilst a man will pay R1,400 for a R1,000 item because he actually needs it" I suppose it depends on the target market then? On a serious note though, if you don't like the price, don't buy the item or shop around for a better price. RRP is usually a guideline issued by suppliers of a particular good and is just that, a recommendation. Depending on the items, I'll always shop around before buying and pay very little attention to the RRP or pre-sale price. This info still does not affect how much is going to leave my wallet at the end of the day. Could also be that the prices go up and a sale is started in order to stimulate sales before the increase is effective or enforced. Some stores also sell their older stock at the "reduced rate" in order to make way for newer stock of the same item which has cost them more to bring in. Ultimately, something is really only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
  20. I bought these some time ago and did a stupid thing by managing to strip the thread when trying to mount the camera for the first time. It has now rendered the whole thing useless and scrap metal. I think the reason it broke could have been the difficulty I had trying to mount the unit with a small amount of rubber between the mount and the bars to stop and scratching/movement and I think that the two part were skew and this is how the thread was stripped. Anyone know of a clam that works similar to a seat post clamp that does not use a screw but rather a clamp?
  21. I'll send you my current eating habits, I seem to rack up the kilos with no problem at all.
  22. Call Terry on 079 482 4658 He'll send it to you via courier wherever you are in the country. I rented one for my first Bela Bela and because I wasn't sure what size I was he sent two and had them both collected after. His offer also includes buying the one you rent if you like it. Service is awesome...
  23. I got flu and generally clogged sinuses... What a pain in the ~ss
  24. Go to Google and type in the following: 5676977 A conspiracy theory?
  25. Maybe he would have knocked the rider off if he'd tried to escape after seeing the first one running up in a hurry. Looks like they weren't gonna let anyone get away irrespective of which route they were riding. Well done to the victim for staying calm and making sure the perp was aware that he was not going to try anything.
