  1. Wtb trailboss rear and vigilante front if you prefer the more agressive tread. or just get trailboss both sides. Excellent all round tyre, I dreading the day they are not available anymore. Think I bought the last set of mine from bike addict.
  2. I need to do the "no big deal" badge, but at my current average speed that will be a 5 hour ride. I'm not too keen on that. May need the assistance of a group to save the legs a bit, and hopefully save some time.
  3. I have had some app crashes where I had to redo a route in order to receive a route badge. you can upload the activity file to zwift and log a query. There are a lot of factors that could contribute to not receiving the badge. If you have to redo the 100 clicks badge, I suggest combining it with the 25 volcano laps. Also do it on a TT bike to gain serious XP points. Normally lots of support on companion for peeps doing the 25 laps.
  4. Such as the traffic department, and citizens following the rules of the road? (Which is gazetted - seeing as everyone is studying the government gazette so closely these days) I do however agree that the exclusive use for cyclists during a certain time is beneficial. However, this is not possible, due to residents, and recreational premises (lion and Rhino, Cradle restaurant ect) requiring access via the roads the cyclists use. It would be great if the authorities get involved in a educational manner, instead of trying to enforce the law with fines and trying to force authority upon the cycling community. Sadly, I have not yet come across a law enforcement officer that may be capable of educating the masses. Edit: I am still avoiding the masses, however, warmer temps mean later starts will be detrimental to my radiator blowing with pm rides.
  5. Did a job in Mbombela (Nelspruit). Slabbed it down on Wednesday. Stayed at Mankele without a bicycle, torture, I know. Not really, its so nice and quiet there, basically one other patron in the whole campsite, made it pure bliss. Handed over to the client and decided to take the scenic route to Dullstroom. There is a dirt road that starts just down the road from sudwala caves, that goes to Lydenburg. very scenic. Then things got interesting very quickly. As I gained elevation, the temp dropped very quickly to around 4deg. It was also very misty, and the road in sections was wet, with soapy exposed rock and mud. still enjoying myself here. Really awesome part of the country. visbility became bad to really bad after this, add the icy mist/drizzle and I had to keep my visor open to see where I was going, while freezing my face off. last photo. After this, I dare not stop, for fear of losing footing, or not being able to get going again...( actually, it was farking cold and wet, and I just wanted to get somewhere warm) Made it to the tar at Lydenburg, and headed for Dullstroom, opted for the tar, and I was decidedly miserable at this stage. of course, the last 10 kays into Dullstroom was more wetness, fog and cold. Pulled into Anvil for coffee, and warmed up next to the roaster. Stopped at the poacher, they had a fire going, had some lunch and a coke. I literally had do pry myslef away from that fireplace and hightailed it back to Joburg. Despite the adverse conditions, a true mini adventure was had.
  6. Steel is real!! Mine has a distinctive ping on the seatpost that almost sounds like a cowbell.. If all goes well, and I am still alive, I would absolutely love it to still be riding at 78. And posting on the bikehub. You sir, have my respect!
  7. Yes, thank you, it's not for everyone.
  8. I disagree with your thread title OP. Went to Giba with my 100mm steel hardtail and had loads of fun, and i'm still alive. My heart had a better chance of killing me at that stage of fitness than the bike did. I agree with openmind, ride the xc bike and your skills will develop like back in the day when you did DH. If you are posting to get some kind of support for your justification to get a new bike, by all means, do it. The correct number of bikes to own is n+1 If I had the means, I would have a bike of all disciplines in my garage. That's why I'm stuck with my current bike for life. So it has to suffice on the long gravel days, the grin-till-your-cheeks-hurt at Giba and Karkloof, and the loose rocky trails up here in Gauteng. It still is more bike than I can handle. Even with a steep HA, 100mm fork and no dropper.
  9. I just had a pantsident
  10. Took a leisurely ride out to Magalies this morning. Taken Next to Tarlton Raceway On the way back. Really Enjoyable outing, away from the crowds of people in the cradle and at the bike parks.
  11. Mine. Dave Mercer custom Hungry monkey based with sliding drop-outs at the back. 130ish travel Probably a Fox 34 of some sort. 30mm Rims, seeing that this is a dream build, Enve Carbon Hoops on Chris King Hubs. 2.4 WTB Vigilante Rubber. Seperate Rigid Steel Fork for when I feel angry at myself.
  12. I got flagged the other day, first time I get a KOM, In fact I got a couple. It clearly upset a whole bunch of people when I forgot my garmin on like a noob, and drove home....
  13. Merida Big7 But these are scarce as hen's teeth.
  14. Yesterday received confirmation of a job in nelspruit next week. I am so excited to ride my bike there I couldn’t sleep last night... Needless to say, I’m hitting sabie roads on the way back, some dirt to dullstroom....
  15. If you enjoy the benefits of suspension in the rougher bits, going rigid will certainly not be the best option. Locking our your front fork is nothing like riding rigid fork. There are pro's and cons to the rigid. Yes, saving weight, and it will certainly make you choose better lines, but that feeling of having done a million push-ups after a fast technical decent will not be missed. You will fatigue sooner on longer rides, because there is no let-up. Corrugations? you will want to rather pick up your bike and run with it. I would solidly put getting smaller rubber on the top of your list. Or keep rolling the fat ones, and see you get stronger and stronger as you keep on riding. Chasing gains with no budget is not worth the effort in my mind, spending time training is the cheapest gains you can possibly obtain.
  16. Been whacked by those "fans" a couple of times, needless to say, I'm about as big a fan as the signs are.
  17. So Zwift screen grabs are pretty boring for this thread, but while doing a sneaky ride between online meetings, I saw this brazilian dude, who is clearly having more fun than most.
  18. The old soapy water trick works wonders. i use diluted clean green in a spray bottle to identify leaks. If it comes out the spoke nipples its rim tape or valve.
  19. I once stood on a piece of flake while wearing my Falke socks, and it was a mess, there was flake falke footprints all over the floor....
  20. Sure, but it will be difficult, as I am currently working on an oil rig in the bay of mexico...
  21. Sold! I will send my banking details
  22. You can buy it from me for 50% of the bike value.
  23. Plenty short sharp rocky climbs to test both technical abilities and fitness.
  24. This is the best news! I will stop in on my way to work whenever I go into the office.
  25. No result for me. I did enter late, and I suspect that because I entered with my real name, and not the strava pseudonym, the system may be confused. I did link my strava account tho. patience, grasshopper, I suppose.
