  1. Especially the dumb @ss comments from the OP....
  2. Good to hear someone praising good service!
  3. You're just a sore looser...
  4. Thanks! It certainly FEELS faster!
  5. Carbon without doubt. It's much more comfortable as you don't get the pedals digging into your soles - especially on long rides...
  6. Looks like a tandem? What a horrific tragedy on a day when this poor couple were enjoying themselves. Condolences to family and friends. My 2c: knowing the road and seeing the conditions, I hope the cops get charged with murder as our dear Transport minister is saying they will do in these cases...
  7. Just to let anyone who rides up to the water tower at Northcliff that access has been severely restricted this week. The three roads around the water tower have been boomed off with access on the east side at Joseph (near Bernard) totally shut. Access on the east side is only via a boom on Louie (off Rocky Drive). There is pedestrian access to the area from the west on Joseph (near Ethel), but the pedestrian gate is only opened at 06:00 apparently. There were a lot of frustrated cyclists and joggers there this morning...
  8. Quite a bit: - chainstays are further apart to accommodate wider tyres; - head angle is more relaxed to make steering surer; - BB is higher for greater clearance; - cabling runs along top tube rather than under BB to avoid mud; - front fork and wheels are heavy duty; - brakes are traditionally cantilever, but discs are now allowed. That's pretty much it....
  9. Well said Tjokkits!!!
  10. Agreed. Also, make damn sure the frame fits you...
  11. My Cervelo R3 with Zipp 202s tubbies...
  12. I can't comment on this too authoritatively, but I must admit that from what I have seen in the racing tandems at the races, not one has downgraded from disk to V brakes. In fact, several have upgraded from V brakes to disks. Again, not too much experience here, but I see the new cyclocross bikes are coming out with STI cable to hydraulic convertors. They look a little clumsy at the moment, but I am sure they will improve given a season or two... This is gross generalisation. Disks on a tandem have the same advantages (and disadvantages) as on an mountain bike. So they are better when wet, they are less subject to fade and stop a bike (in this case a tandem) better. As a male tandem, we weigh about 180kgs fully loaded. We (unfortunately) ride V brakes. As the pilot, I have cr@pped myself on several occasions where our brakes were wet or faded and we have little or no braking. It's been a miracle we have not had a major incident - that and the fact that having survived the first incident, I have learned not to assume I have any brakes under these conditions. The last time was going down the valley of 1000 hills in the Shova with both brake levers pulled hard against the handlebars and it was not slowing us down. We had just enough braking in the wet to stop us from accelerating, but no more. We have not upgraded to discs (yet!) due to to budgetary constraints, but I can tell you that as soon as we have the cash (or buy a new tandem) disks will be on top of the list. If disks gave no advantage, why are they standard issue on MTBs and now cyclocross?
  13. Yeah - but you also have to be a member of a club.
  14. Gill is going through all the Cycle Lab members who have entered the Argus and paid their 2012 CSA fees. Those who have paid their Club fees are immediately approved and those who have not get the not approved message. Pay your Club subs and you will be approved. Also if you pay your Cycle Lab subs, you get a chance to win the Toyota... ;-)
  15. Hangers are usually pretty specific - so make sure you have a spare. Having said that, hangers are often common to several bikes, so I take a sample of mine into my LBS and search through their hangers until I find a match If you have a decently supported bike, you can get your LBS to order spares from the suppliers.
  16. You'll have to prise my granny gear from my cold, dead legs...
  17. Finally! One I can make!!! See you there! Will Marc & Merlyn be providing coffee? ;-)
  18. The only bang you would have heard here was the pop as your crack pipe exploded...
  19. As does most "religious" nonsense...
  20. I cannot figure out which of these two statements is weirder. This superstitious BS amazes me! And in the 21st century, nogal!!!
  21. Can't see the location on my phone! Where is it? All the best Anton!
  22. Hope you got sorted. I saw a Racetec gazebo near the start and wondered if you managed to get a chip from there...?
  23. +1 for the 29er brigade...
  24. It will work - the chips are exactly the same except for the packaging, but Racetec have been stopped by CC from registering CC chips on the Racetec system...
  25. Racetec some years ago allowed us to use our CC chips for their races until CC threatened them with legal action. It seemed legally dodgy to me (as well as a bad reflection on CC), but Racetec backed down...
