I agree with lots that said here - I stopped for the most part riding on a Sunday morng - instead after church. We have a Sunday evening service & that is what I'm looking at going to instead - shud I not make the morning service. I also believe U must have some faith to even be on the bike in Gauteng - let alone cummuting to work every day !!! 'DT"

One thing I will say - some motorists are courteous when I'm commuting / they allow me right of way & generally respect my hand signals etc. Cannot say the same for others tho' - Then there is the case of PEDESTRIANS - man I almost flattened a cow yesterday - she's on her cell looking at me coming on & standing in the road yapping - I swore I will not swerve 'cos then I get bumped - I shouted at her to get out of the way & off the road .. another bunch of idiots among us !! Had to use the car this morning after a month of commuting - to the detriment of my health I have missed nothing driving to work not even the comfort of the heater & music. I decided to pay strict attention to how motorists behave or if anything has changed in the month of my absence - NOTHING - there is NO HONOUR/RESPECT & INTEGRITY among motorists - speeding / taking chances & filling every available gap to get ahead & we all still meet at the traffic lights. I felt unsafe in my car - yes this is old news but for some reason I feel more confident on my bike than I did in my car this morning - Still I cannot understand what the rush is / why the disrespect & lack of consideration. As long as "I'm ahead of U" mentality it's all good. Really I felt it's not such a bad idea the other day when cops opened fire on each other & motorists behave as they do that it's time to get out !!! Disagree if U like but hey what the hell !!! "DT"

Well done indeed - It's beyond my understanding what kind of people "live among us" in our society - Commuting to work supposed to be an experience thro' winter - Yesterday I could not 4 the life of me understand the mentality behind the thinking of a taxi driver - yet his passengers R 2 eager to be in agreement with his actions - i.e Cutting not only me off that's on a bike but a number of cars at an intersection yet its green lites for us to proceed. People hooted / I raised my hands & all in vain true & "they" swear at us. I usually call a spade a spade & when they looked at me I pointed at my temple saying "U dumb D%&kies" - eishhhh I had to put foot & pedal for life & limb - no want Xenophobia upon a cycleeeest !! I seem to find it not contentious enough 'cos the winner of last years Tour is not invited -- I think every winner shud get a chance to defend his title - makes for better racing - Maybe I have it wrong, I know all the big names are there but surely Astana shud have been given an invite ????? 'DT"

Commute 5 times p/week to work -- 6.15 (dodge traffic) -- hit the gym / shower / work & off I go again the afternoon !! It takes some motivation to get into this routine - Cold is all gud - clothes help but the wet - that is something else !!! "DT"

No Not all of us are as stupid as that cyclist - we all don't have a death wish - we just love riding our bikes - But let me emphasise that I believe its the motoring fraternity that has "no care" about "who else" is on the road save themeselves - If motorists has NO RESPECT for fellow motorists - clearly they have NO regard for us 2 wheelers / see us as a menace and in their way. I agree it is utterly dangerous to be on SA roads but what else are we to do ?? I like mountain biking but prefer road biking. - I never said it will never "happen" to me as it already has and no matter how careful U are - some stupid arrogant motorist ain't far away !! 'DT"

I want to add my bit : I ride with 2 red flashing lites on the rear & 2 clear on the front since I've been commuting to work --- Without FAIL I was cut off twice by motorists from the front turning left just as they overtook me - as well as motorists "chancing" turning out of a road as I approach --Yet I'm also wearing "Bright clothing" We can ride with a floodlight on our heads for crying out loud and it won't make a difference "DT"

So few of us realise the dangers of cycling 2 & more abreast - often I've seen where the road narrows cyclists continue taking up space instead of single file - It can work so much better if we "work together" - as it is motorists themselves have NO or LITTLE RESPECT for each other, & that in vehicles - cutting in & chancing stop streets etc.... My group did just that Saturday - they could not care less so I turned off & went at it alone .... NO THANK U ......... "DT

I had both knees go on me a long time ago - the last pain I had was in the right knee just below the knee-cap - Used to use the big ring alot & on climbs - enter high cadence & lighter gears as well as saddle adjustment ... problem sorted ... Now I don't overload the quads & almost never push big gears especially climbing - My friend has the same pain & I established the exact same symtoms as I had ..he works big gears & never listens .... If it's on a training bike then nothing wrong with that - However I used to ride Tiagra & had no problems for a long time ...... even raced with it,,,upgraded to 105 10sp & the difference / smoothness & shifting was felt almost instantly .... I'd say if U can upgrade - JUST DO IT !! "DT"

I'd rather not get into this debate - same as yesterdays thread where blows were exchanged & it ended up with naming & shaming & & & so who really care's if there are some cyclists crossing white lines / few or no ambulances / marshalls or no CSA rules being abided to etc... Hey U screwed 10 ways to Sunday because U want to race / pay your entry fees and shut up ... I have read most of this thread but got sick of it - Firstly I agree with the anger Skye & some of U vent - it's unacceptable for cyclists "Pro" or otherwise to ride so irresponsibly ... Then U get the ""IDIOT" that screams "it's hardly the time to name & shame now" - Shame how PATHETIC some of U are ---- If that cyclist was killed or knocked down I assure U the outcry some of U would make would have been heard from the rooftops - Then, I agree with Linnega to disqualify the whole bunch etc,,,,, It's about time cyclists or some of them must be taken to task for their behaviour & stupid actions ... Aaaaahhhhhhhh Squeeze me !!! "DT"

I've used my Cateye monitor (attached to handle bars) for some time now - I later attached my HRMonitor (attached to the stem) & all it's gadgetary ... Now the 2 magnets are attached to the front wheel in opposite directions because the sensors of these 2 are on either side of the fork .... I got the Cateye playing up funny i.e figures jumping around when I used the bike ... I have since removed the Cateye .... Now I know the HRM gives U all the bells & whistles when it comes to timing speed etc...& even downloading data...why do I still want to use the Cateye?? So this is just for interest sake : Why does it affect the C.Eye & what can I do about it ... my C.eye's cord is not long enough to be used on the rear ..... "DT"

The fact that I could exchange a cassette 12-23 for a 13-25 at my LBS without my proof of purchase - & that I bought 6months ago, never used ...no extra charge .......... walked out with extra's - Thank U Westdene Cycles .......... I know of another shop that almost cost me my life when the new groupset was fitted - loose screws etc...went back to show & complain - I got a cold shoulder - & the blame was put on me, never went back ever since !!
