Anyone who has used an ardendorff floor sander will know my frustration when feeding wood into the sander...the belt system sucks...it slips so you have to stand and push the wood to keep it going...otherwise you have to release the pressure so that it just touches the wood which means you have to push it through 20 times...well i had enough tonight and decided to try something...fitted 2 rollers on the outside to put pressure on the inside roller which stops it from slipping...problem solved...now i only have to feed it 3 times.
Just need to fit rubber rollers instead of hard plastic and replace the 2 springs with slightly stronger ones.
I just adjusted mine
It's got a set of bolts that you can use to set the tracking on the belt, you can also use them to tighten the belt a bit.
Now if I can only get sandpaper that lasts in it ... mine does about 50 boards or so then shreds on either end. Duct tape gives me another 5 boards or so.
Anybody been to the Woodex show yet? Want to know if it's worth the schlep, someone just told me it's tiny
The classification has little to do with how 'hard' the wood is ...
Basically, if it has flowers, it's hardwood. If it has cones, softwood.

It's the wife's treadmill bike .... parked between the dustbin and gas cage, don't think it's seen a pedal in two years.
I have some free time on my hands, so busy cleaning and organzing the workshop a bit. I'm making a router table stand thingy, this is it's handle. Rhodesian Teak inlay in (gah, sies, spoeg uit) pine. I've been wanting to try this for quite some time now, glad I did it with scraps and not in a project.
Seriously!!! WTF is going on here?

Movei from 2007 (yes, this milenium) called Big man Japan
Ok, so for the Gauteng based guys I'm going to drop the mother of all Pallet secrets:
Andre 082 257 5667
He works at Norcros, who makes tiles and cement for TAL and a few other companies. They make their own pallets to ship out (unobtainium) but most of the pallets that comes in are sold ... 50c a piece. Enquire with Andre as to availability and pick-up times etc, they are a little finicky sometimes (can only pick up on Tue and Thur, must 'book' a week in advance etc)
I normally pre-pay for 100 pallets and drop two of my guys there with a set of crowbars, hammers, pliers and a trailer. They fill it with stripped planks in a day
A neat chest of drawers? it would hurt to cut those long boards into shorter bits, but I don't need another table. Not in a rush.
Then swop them for shorter boards
Hypothetically speaking, if one were to come across a large number of genuine, legal, 24 year old Yellowwood boards about 3m x 300mm x 22mm, what would one make with them? (Other than a table)
Serious question.
All I know is that a Philistine like me should not touch them with a saw
3 meters? Table top for sure.
There's still a lot of yellowwood available, price is around the R30 000 per cubic meter mark, but most of those are short planks around 1.8m, and under 200mm wide. Unless you pay premium plus a little on the side, then you can get those sizes you speak of. It would be sacrilege to waste that much length (that's what she said)
... Skill Saw ...
Which one?
... an orbital sander (The rectangular one) ...
Chuck it and get a Random Orbit Sander, the round one.
... an electric plane ...
Kill it! Kill it with fire!
... would like to add a router ...
Real interesting thread. Lots of talent out there.
Quick question - I have this table, and the top appears to have "warped". It is reclaimed wood, New Zealand pine from my understanding.
Is there a way to repair it, or thin the top down to an acceptable level of straight?.
In the photo, you can see how the top left corner has kicked up.
Or is firewood the next best thing?
Where are you based?
A table i have been building with all the scraps from my workshop
One of 4 benches i am busy building for our entertainment area...from pallets
A very important machine when working with reclaimed wood...planer thicknesser...the trick is to replace the blades with ones you can resharpen...it must be the most used machine in my workshop
Hi Crankywoodworker!
Dave, whee are you based? I'd love to come check out those canoes, it's on my "I'd love to do that" list.
Lovely, what wood is that?
Thanks! The tops are Rhodesian Teak, 50mm thick, counter space total is 4mX600mm. The bottom stuff is, sigh, stained pine. I suggested to the client that we take industrial pine, from the mills, and spray a matt black over them. Initially he agreed, but then reversed decision and asked me to stain it. I'd much rather have kept it to the rough-sawn pine than stain it, but I think it came out ok in the end.
Nice, what size projects can you handle? I'm on the prowl for a high value project that needs to be handed over in august.
How large is the project? I've got some seasonal guys working for me, but can easily expand the crew. Workshop is not massive though.
As the title suggests ... your OWN work only, please!
