  1. Not as straight forward. If you give someone bad rep, which he/she deserves, then you run the risk of him giving you bad rep just to be spightfull.

    1.5 m rule

Agree 100% with awesme and grebel. The majority of the people in this country has no respect for another persons life. Look at the gang rape in india, HUGE news, here it's a weekly phenomenon. Rules won't change anything. The mentality of our population has to change first. IMHO, only way of making our roads safe for cyclists is to not use them...get a mtb and keep off the tar.
  3. They are damn heavy. Also reading up on tires nowadays. Running race kings but I am going to swap the front for a ikon. Since the race kings are protection they are rock solid on the back for sidewall cuts and the ikon costing R390 at cwc will save be about 130g's!
  4. Found myself screaming to the top of my lungs and nearly cried along my very long mtb ride yesterday. Was on a big road for a bit and road on the wrong side of the road, staring every single taxi driver that passed out of his taxi. Also going to cut the tar to a bare minimum, and ride on the wrong side when I feel unsafe. Seems cars don't watch out for us so I will rather see the coming, then at least I can swing out.
  5. When I saw this thread title I hoped it was a very silly prank. Felt like my browser loaded forever. I too feel very sad, I am not a emotional guy or one feeling all torn up over deaths but this has struck a nerve very close to my heart. Feels like a very close famaily member died. I for one will be out riding for tomorrow in the wind, wearing black. We should start to create awareness and not just comments on those "cyclist killed" threads. Let's take those free ppa 1.5m stickers and slap them on to random cars and taxis. On the windshield or bumper or whatever when you feel like it. Maybe even add some strong adhesive and make the mark stay there, a reminder for how cyclists feel when our friends are being ignored on the roads. RIP my fellow avid cyclist.
  6. I found slx chain and xt cassette your best value for money combo. slx chain is about R300 (R100 cheaper than xt chain but I have found it somewhat more prone to rust, this is however not an issue if you like to maintain your drivetrain). XT cassette about R750. Easybike had a special on xt cassette and chain for R700. Best deal on a drivetrain I have seen for a long time. Go check out thieir website.
  7. Check your rear hub, I think it needs some lubrication.
  8. Katotter do you still have that plastic ring attached to the cassette, if so I suspect it could be that. Check that the skewer is tight and wheel with skewer solid in place. Check that the screetch is not your disk brake pad rubbing against your rotor (this happened to me a few times).
  9. 5 Pages of a guy not wearing a helmet? I get more pissed by those guys and gals climbing off and pushing their bikes right in the middle of the track in a race.
  10. On the topic of heart rate zones, is it actually as beneficial to your training as the marketing makes it out to be?
  11. I watched that way too many times.

  15. I like this one: http://www.mxalliance.co.za/img/assets/productitemsgallery/6734/2011-CamelBak-Rogue-Hydration-System-Black.jpg It has pockets for goodies and a 2l reservoir for drinks. Little tip I picked up, blow back your cold beverage other wise your sips in between will be warm. CWC had a special on them the other day, go check it out. The 3L's are a bit overkill if you don't drink that much, did the karoo2coast with this one and still had some drink left. It is one of the cheapest camelbaks and unlike the 3L's it is not too long so it doesn't make your lower back sweat.
  16. Had a very different picture for "SA's hottest celeb" in mind.
  17. On homebrewed they are around $45, but they take forever to ship them here. Looks damn sick though .
  18. Haha, yeah true, chain is the right size (3 links overlap when on biggest and smallest gear). Running type 1. Been lucky I guess, but I have to say the rd is very tight. Anyway, if the chain doesn't fall of on those roots I highly doubt it will fall of when in a xc race so I am happy. Those chain tensioners are expensive hey? R600 or so icluding mounting brackets and all, might as well use a fd or a road fd for the weight weenies.
  19. Your cheapest option would then be to buy the downhill spider, unless you want to be the bees knees and ship in this baby. http://www.homebrewedcomponents.com/sc_images/x0hires.jpg
  20. Only drove it in Paarl, but here is a 400mm piece of singletrack with lots of ruts, roots and very jumpy terrain, went down there a few times now where I only heard the clattering of the chain slapping on the frame and it stayed on all the time. Chain on it's limits, what's that?

    Tri Suit

Sorry for hijacking, but can you tri okes maybe give me a website where I can see a race calender? Bicycling's doesn't to work.
  22. Same boat as you are. Why not just go with a bb30 crank and remove the small chainring? My x9 crank is 26/39 so that is 1 tooth more than you want, but if you are talking about xx1 then the pap must obviously be duk. In that case I would buy a sram x0 downhill crank. You can keep your chain and it wont cost that much. What crank do you have now?
  23. I have a x9 crank on my cannondale frame, it's bcd's are too small or too big for me to get a 30 or 32t chainring. Also running 1x10 on the 26t chainring, not ideal since I spin out at around 37km/h. But my alternative is to get a pressfit bb30 and buy a shimano 3 blade crank or buy a sram s2200 bb30 crank. I don't run a chainguide and my chain has never fallen off. RD is a med cage and I have gone down single track I thought it must surely fall off now, so I think that is just a gimmick, in reality chains don't fall off that easily. What crank and bb configuration do you have now?
  24. Heres a map and website of all the trails you okes are mentioning http://www.mtbroutes.co.za/cape-peninsula-a-winelands-all-mtb-routes.html
