Rocky Mountain Instinct Previous generation 130 mm Instinct 950 (2014) with a 140 mm Pike and too many upgrades to mention. A really nice bike for Stellenbosch, wouldn't mind a new bike in the future but I'm keeping this one alive till then.

Still pretty happy with my Fenix 3 HR sapphire but this is sooo nice... Instincts looks like better value for the "average Joe" though.

I think it's all relative, I get super annoyed when an advertiser says Bargain etc. for an item that is overpriced in my opinion. If someone sells a previous model bike/item at a current model price he should expect some lowball offers. Should we start rating people that want to rip off other people?

Must say I enjoyed the long race, got seeded in the last batch and just enjoyed the ride. Water tables wasn't that bad and there was a bit of traffic towards the end. I was lucky that I got some "gaps" on the descends so I didn't get stuck behind too many people. l live in Stellenbosch and registration in the preceding week would have been a mission, got a friend to pick it up for me. All round a nice race, might do it again.

I know there is no easy solution to this problem, I had some traffic but I was taking it easy so it wasn't too bad. Luckily the field spreads out after the first climb. It's a really nice place to ride and those views were amazing (especially with the snow in the distance)!

Really nice event, I was definitely better prepared than last year but still not 63 km fit... There is always next year. It might be a good idea to let the 37 km and 63 km start 30 min apart to relieve some of the congestion. I'll certainly be back next year.

Thanks, I rarely make more than one cup at a time but I can definitely see the benefits in PID when higher volumes is required.

I understand that the PID does better temperature control but does it make that much of a difference? I've read up alot on forums and I've been quite happy with the coffee thusfar... I might consider a PID when the unit is out of warranty (and my finances have recovered a bit).

I spoiled myself a bit and bought a Rancilio Silvia (and a doserless Rocky grinder) a while back. Initially stated off with a "normal" little blade grinder and quickly found out it was not capable enough... I'm quite pleased with the setup thus far, any tips/advice from other Silvia/Rocky owners? What grind setting do you normally use?

I would like to do The U but R6000 is a big stretch. I would gladly forgo the catering etc. and even pitch my own tent it means I get a cheaper entry and need to make my own food. There is definitely scope for "cheaper" and more low-key stage races in South Africa...

Thanks for a great event. We did the 45 km as a group of friends (we stopped regularly to wait for each other) and had our own halfway support crew with boeries (sorry for any confusion caused). As others mentioned, first half was a bit wet and muddy but it cleared up nicely afterwards. Route was very well suited to the Surly Krampus (rigid 29+) and I just had one close call hitting a rocky section at speed. We will be back next year and bring even more friends along! The commentator at the prize giving is one of the most random people ever, we haven't laughed as much at someone in a long time. Keep up the good work!

Nice to see trails I started to ride on (and helped to build in some cases) here, brings back great memories! Think I should plan a weekend to the old hometown soon. Keep up the good work.

Close to a R17k price difference on the cheapest model compared to Europe. You could almost justify a quick European holiday to make up the difference!

Interesting topic this (sorry but I haven't read the whole thread), there seems to be growing trend towards bikes like this in the States. Alot of bikes is for touring (29" based) and "gravel grinders" (700c based). I'm sort of tinkering with the idea to convert my GT CX bike to something along these lines, but a new frame, wheels and disks is going to cost a pretty penny. Some cool examples: Salsa Fargo Trek 920
