So on January 4 2024 I bought a ASSOS Mille GT C2 bib short from Cycle lab as they had a very good special.

The shorts are great, very comfortable and I would have considered buying more except: after using them for about 3 months or 26 rides ( I rotate bib shorts) I noticed the material between the pad and seat is basically worn through. I took the shorts back to Cycle Lab who sent it to J&J Cycling for a warranty claim. I learnt that there will be no warranty claim because of the saddle I use, please read the next bit:

Here is the thing and also my reference point, about 7 or 8 year ago I bought 3 bib shorts at the 94.7 expo then held at the Dome, 1 x Ciovita Corsa bibs and 2 x Vermarc PRR bibs. For context I  have been using the same saddle, a Specialized Power saddle for all this time. I retired the Ciovita bibs because they stretched, no holes. I still use the Vermarc bibs but they are starting to show signs of wear but still 100% usable. My question, should a warranty claim be justified in this instance?

The ASSOS Mille GT C2 bibs are DEFINITELY not the same quality as their predecessors. Was a big shock to me, taking in to consideration what you pay and what your are use to......

I’d say your biggest upgrade would be gearing. You’d be able to fit a larger chainring which should make a huge difference on your flats and descents.

My GB came to me with Shimano GRX installed, being 1x11. I've got the option of either a 40 or 42 in front. Would one really look at more than that? Not sure I want to change to 2x?

Fini a worthy partner to put up with Nino for 8 days... Bar serious technicals they going to put up a good fight to keep yellow.

Didn't expect Speed Company to loose almost 3mins today.

Speed Company made a comment in their pre-race interview re the implications of a 2-3 minute deficit in the prologue. Hope it does not come back to bite them......

How long were you held up? A minute? 3 perhaps? Shame.

Again, no disrespect meant, read my previous post. In those minutes where the cyclists chose their rights over those of motorists, you could have had a accident involving multiple vehicles and maybe even some of the cyclists, given the narrow road. So yes, sorry you feel offended. Enjoy riding!

Keen to know why the apparent value of the bikes makes any kind of difference?

Not sure if you live in Paarl or were just passing through. As a fairly new addition to Paarl, I have found there are certain sections of Paarl main road where one simply has to take up space to prevent bring doored, people pulling out in front of you or trying to squeeze past pushing into the kerb or parked vehicle etc. Glass on a Saturday or Sunday morning after the previous nights revelling is a big problem, I’ve cut 3 sets of tyres beyond repair…Also you’re just as likely to get stuck behind a slow driver or truck/tractor, of which there are many, particularly on a weekend, so what do you do then? Obviously one doesn’t want to create unnecessary animosity and of course everyone needs to follow the rules of the road.

    Hi there,

I've lived in Paarl for a good 15 years and I am a cyclist. You also being part of this town will know there are sections with no shoulders, no yellow lines, real narrow sections, especially driving out south. Bikes being ridden 2 and 3 abreast at 11h30 in the morning just ain't really cool. That was what I was trying to get across.

The value of the bikes make no difference in the issue being right or wrong. I referred to the bikes and tried to point out by "valueing" them that these chaps are seasoned riders, know the rules and know the issues we as cyclists have to deal with. Not the chap who has just pulled his 20 year old Raleigh for the next week's casual ride.

I mean no disrespect to the said riders, I merely ask, knowing the risks involved and the animosity caused, why seasoned guys must still do it, block the road for their benefit.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone here, never the idea.

    Cheers

  6. To the four roadies (black and white tops), on your very expensive bikes in the Main Road of Paarl, holding up a line of cars whilst you are riding well abreast of each other. NOT COOL, not cool at all when we are, on a daily basis, delving in to the reasons for the issues between cyclists and motorists. NEE MAN, wees lekker!

Did you order of their web, or did you have to contact them via an email ?  I am hoping to find an active line to communicate with them ....

I sent a mail asking certain questions prior to my purchase. I got responded to rather quickly! Send David another mail, unfortunately these days one's computer has the ability to "decide" which mails you see..... david@everydaycyclesupplyco.com

They have a survey out, tell them how you feel. I don’t support them anylonger simply because their kit has issues and they don’t stand behind it with sufficient stock, ever,

So give it to them directly for what it’s worth. Personally I just moved on from Shimano and specifically Coolheat. It’s less painful.

Just did, thanks. Won't be winning any prizes based on complimentary commenting

  10. Thanks, appreciate the advice. Just rather gatvol of being taken for a ..... by an industry where pricing is already at a premium. And yes, I am raging(apologies), I don't have an issue with everyone earning a little of the cake, but don't make me the prisoner for you wanting to eat the whole cake.

    NOT COOLheat.......

The local agents, Cool Heat, are likely to blame. Otherwise it's Shimano expressing their right to freedom of choice as to whom and where they supply their parts.

I cannot think it would be Shimano itself? How does it make sense for them to "block" themselves? If it's Cool Heat, how exactly is that not "anti competitive" practises?

  12. I'm trying to get some replacement parts for my drivetrain and brake units, XTR components. Standard answer is nobody has stock, Shimano cannot deliver. Deliveries "could" be possible late June, middle July. You can, however, get from overseas, not cheaper, but they have stock. Guess what - sorry, no deliveries of Shimano parts to SA. So the bigwigs at Shimano can keep us at ransom for their shite production schedules and lack of understanding of "freedom of choice"? Sitting here wondering how we just allow it? Nee man, NOT COOL!!!

Sorry what is factually incorrect? That woolies provided the food immediately after the stage or that it is the worst quality food you’ve ever been offered

Woollies was not the food supplier

Which Garmin model is this? I'm currently using my Fenix, but it is just too small for all these kind of "reads". Do you "use" all this data whilst riding?
