    Give it a TRI

Anyone doing the Grabouw Xterra this weekend? Edit: think there will be quite an international contingent there. Saw a guy at the pool in Stellenbosch Virgin Active yesterday who was shredded like f***ing lettuce, all sponsored up and doing 40 sec 50's with both his legs tied up, and paddles the size of truck wheels.
  2. We stayed at the Cedar Rock resort - really nice accommodation, can 100% recommend it. It is a couple 100 meters from the starting point (if that), so it is perfectly placed as well. https://www.safarinow.com/go/cedarrockresortclanwilliam/
  3. Just normal LSD rides, banking the km's. We did a couple of long rides from Durbanville out to Wellington, Paarl, Stellenbosch, etc. Gravel / some tar roads, and just let the km's roll.
  4. Oh, just to add: that last big climb at about 90km is farking tough. This is the one you need to watch out for, and it is actually more like 3 smaller climbs in 1. You hit it at about noon, we had temperatures of about 35'C there, and it just seems to never end. Its one of those climbs where you can almost constantly see all the way you have to go, just to get over the top, have a little dip, and then go again. Its hard. Good news is that once you are over the top it is mostly flat to the finish, and road conditions are (or were) good from there on.
  5. That first long climb on the route profile is really not that bad. It is quite long, but very manageable. The long stretch at top was actually harder for me - road was in a bad condition, loads of "sinkplaat", and my HT was unforgiving. You wont be disappointed in doing this race, even if only for the scenery. At the end of the day it feels like you almost rode 3 different races in 3 different areas.
  6. Thanks guys - that helps a lot. I wondered about going to see someone professional, so I'm just going to do that. There's also a great running shop in CPT; will go ask for some expert advice there. Happy running!
  7. I have some serious underpronation going on, and my last pair of running shoes did not work out at all. Anyone have some advice and experience regarding which specific shoes to get in order to counter this? Is inner soles necessary?

  9. Lekker Fanie, dis baie mooi vir my.
  10. Sal vir haar so vol wors stop, haar oƫ sal soos slaghuisvensters lyk.

  12. Cool, thanks. Still with Standard Bank, but looking at moving over to FNB.
  13. On a certain "bank" package?
  14. Talk price with us...
  15. And then you will always get people who tell you that this is "just business", etc. In my opinion, companies that do this (in any trade) should be ashamed of themselves. It is just not on.

    Cricket......

Brilliant article. The inspiring thing is I can actually see the writers attitude towards cricket being displayed in the NZ and Aus cricket teams. The approach is just so much different than ours.
  17. I just checked the back of their skinny hot chocolate. It is 60% cocoa poweder. This is the sweeteners listed: Non-nutrative sweeteners - Sucralose - Acesulfame K It also Caramel powder.
  18. I got quoted about R3500 for two lenses in my Oakley Holbrooks. They had to get made in Ireland, and eventually delivered here. That might be a part of why they are so expensive.
  19. Eish, I never had a look at the prices. But that is a bit heavy
  20. All you okes in CPT, check this out: http://www.capetownmagazine.com/restaurants-cape-town/the-bacon-pop-up-bar-in-franschhoek/27_22_19388 Might just swing by there this weekend . Also, this seems like a nice site: http://baconofthemonth.co.za/
  21. Ja look, I agree. I will be the first to admit that anything bike related is WAY over inflated, thats a fact. But if I can be blunt, I also feel that using, say, a Santa Cruz mold to make an exact same bike frame as the Tallboy, and then just not brand it, is also not right. The R&D is where the big money goes into, and these okes just jump in the middle, and start copying frames that most people like. It's not right. Making cycling affordable to the masses is a novel idea, but that's not how businesses operate currently. Also, there is a difference between making cycling more affordable, and wanting to ride a Santa Cruz with Sram components for 10k (just pulling your leg here... a bit)
  22. This is just silly, in all respect. If you feel something is too expensive and you dont get value for your money, dont buy it. There is absolutely no way this can be justified. If any company wants to make 100k profit on a frame, that is their business. It does not give anyone the right to go against the law, and try and profit from the brand that company has built up. It just isn't on. It is the same as downloading pirate movies, getting some ebooks from your friend on a usb, etc. You are stealing from someone who has the right to earn income for the work they have done. There is no grey areas here. In any case, if anyone feels 20k for a frame is too much, there is nothing wrong with it. But if you are willing to buy a fake replica for 8k, just so people think you have a cool bike, then it is time for some introspection.
  23. Agreed, very nice blokes, and service is outstanding.
  24. What do guys think the little piggies will weigh? Maybe we can go 2 or 3 guys on a vark, and share it up equally or something?
  25. Getting there! And I picked my team for the big climbs
