  1. Lets all turn a blind eye for the good of cycling ? Leaving the matter will do more harm. The message going out from all this is not for joe public, its for pro athletes and managers
  2. so the problem is the procedure not the fact that he doped and his team mates testified and he is guilty ? I think the procedure is only a problem because he is guilty. i not even sure why people argue for his innocence anymore
  3. believe me, that Hill Climb is not for the faint hearted! It is a MONSTER
  4. guys, pull your head out of your @sses... for years the guy was pulling wool over everyones eyes and got away with it. do what they have to do too bring him and the others to book. Now, next year in 10 years time... it doesn't matter
  5. quite impressive. 12 points behind shooter for the series lead.
  6. This is the point where I get skeptical, but then again, there are years spent by educated people to monitor the heart rate (reaction periods, beat patterns I assume) response to your historical and current physical state. If you look how Polar with the 'own optimizer' and 'fitness tests' calculate some measure of fitness and fatigue. I will also sit back a while and read a review or two.
  7. haha, wonder what they are going to do ? write me a fine ? take away my drivers license ? who is going to enforce this ?
  8. I agree, it does depend how serious you are about the figures. Fair enough Another interesting estimated power calculation method is the way Strava(www.strava.com) calculates you wattage from your speed and elevation gain. One of the downsides here is that the terrain does not come into the calculation. Will be interesting if you can use HR and gps data..
  9. me thinks this is a load of donkey dick.... save the money and buy a proper CycleOps power meter
  10. nice to hear from the older folk how things have changed over time. was having breakfast with my dad (now 68) this morning. he told me about the days when trains were about the only mode of goods transport and you had to have a permit to transport your crops to the market. You weren't allowed to transport any other farmers goods. How the trains stopped about every 2km to pick up one milk can and then return it the next morning... how mail bags were hung from a tree at the small station for when the train come past....or just hung there until it was collected. How my great grandfather in Barberton used to order grapes from Tulbagh, the farmer will leave it at the station in the basket with a cloth over... the next morning it will arrive at the station in Barberton, off loaded with no one around, and the my dad had to go collect it some time during the day. The next day the empty basket will be returned by leaving it at the station. made me smile The time and skill that went into photography and how they used to color in the photos. I was once again amazed by the meticulous effort that went into things that is so easy today.
  11. zombie.zerg - thanks for the flashback..... (now where do i turn off this violin music) as you've noticed cycling is being enjoyed by more people as part of their daily lives - welcome back.
  12. newbies they come and the go
  13. hehe, good one. or someones misses that can't work the gears and didn't manage to paddle
  14. Yeah, it is always entertaining to watch him race - even the competitors want to compete against him. He really did make a mockery out of all the authorities. Unfortunately the continual denial of never used PED's is not helping. just read this - Q: How can Armstrong be charged in the absence of a positive doping test? A: The World Anti-Doping Agency code enables anti-doping authorities to charge athletes based on "nonanalytical positives,'' or evidence of doping violations that does not derive from a positive test. That evidence could include eyewitness testimony, documents, correspondence, financial records or possession of banned substances. In Armstrong's case, USADA cites witnesses who say they saw Armstrong use EPO, testosterone, corticosteroids, blood transfusions and masking agents to enhance his athletic performance. The letter also references results of blood tests done in 2009 and 2010 by the UCI, cycling's international governing body. Although none of the individual samples produced a positive test, taken together, the profile they present is "fully consistent with blood manipulation including EPO use and/or blood transfusions,'' the letter states. Introducing those results as evidence would require interpretation by a scientific expert, and any Armstrong defense presumably would include an expert to try to refute those findings. Q: What potential sanctions does Armstrong face? A: Armstrong has been competing in triathlons in a bid to qualify for the Ironman world championships this fall. USADA's letter was copied to the World Triathlon Corp., which runs Ironman events in the United States and overseas and is a signatory of the WADA code. The WTC immediately suspended Armstrong from competition under a provision of its own rules. If convicted of multiple doping offenses, Armstrong could receive up to a lifetime ban from any sports whose federations abide by the WADA code. He would forfeit all results and prize money from the period of time referenced in the charges.
  15. keep in mind that the federal investigation investigated and prosecute on different charges than what ADA may be looking interested in. The federal investigation probably came up with evidence (be it witnesses and testimonies) that will not necessarily lead to federal prosecution but USADA will have grounds for suspension/ prosecution. I assume Jeff passed on the facts and this lead to the suspension. I would imagine for the USADA to suspend LA so soon after the Federal Investigation ended, they have a good case.
  16. all winners should be announced in 10 years time at a finishing ceremony

  21. Yello.....uhh...
  22. River Rat, ask yourself. if there was a 53t front ring will you use it ? Why not? its not what you can put on but what you use. like i say you will spend less than 1% of a race in 39/11 if any time. go test it with your current configuration. edit : sorry i should have started with - you are right. you will lose some gear ratios and probably top end gears. as you said, the smaller ring is more important. i found that losing some top end gears did not really bother me and the weight saving and shifting performace of 2x10 is quite nice.
  23. I suggest sram 24/38 rings and 11-36 cassette. I think less than 1% of your riding time will be in 38/11
  24. Unfortunately you are unlikely to improve a whole lot with the amount and type of training you do. You can surely build some good strength in your legs but endurance will be a problem. You must decide if its worth focusing on intensity sessions with the time you have available - you will not enjoy training a whole lot. With limited time available to you weight loss (if practical) is your best option to increase climbing VAM ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velocity_Ascended,_Metres_per_hour ). Use the time you have on a bike.
  25. cycling shorts is like double breast suites... your grandpa has a couple... you may have one from way back... the short fat guy definitely has one... they have a place, you're just not sure where
