Sorry no update on the withdrawn riders. That tab does have any information populated. Would have to go back and check how many teams started the prologue vs how many crossed the finish line last night. I like the changes they have made to the information presented but it does always feel like a work in progress.

I've gone and looked and this is what I have found:

727 teams were registered; I can't see how many actually started

    710 teams finished the prologue

    659 teams finished stage 1

    599 teams finished stage 2

So possibly 128 teams have not finished after 3 days.  I didn't check individual finishers, so I don't know how many teams have both riders out.

I have no doubt she'll do it. but why 70 days? Beaumont did it in ~41 days but I can't seem to find a ladies record.

There is no women's record.  That is why she is doing it.

    "Because // Representation matters //
In sport, especially cycling, women are underrepresented and it slows down our progress in getting new women into the sport. Because it’s harder to do something if you don’t see people you can relate to also doing it.

70 days is the time that Guinness gave her;  I don't know how they came up with that; maybe about 150km per day

She plans to do 200 - 300km a day, so i suppose she wants to beat 54 days.

No Saffas on the start line for woman's TT.

Frances Janse van Rensberg pulled out of TdF after 3 days.  She then went to hospital and had surgery, and has returned to SA for the rest of the season, so wont be at Commonwealth games

Ashley pulled out of TdF with an infection after 6? days. I expect she isn't recovered yet.  She has skipped the TT before to focus on the Road Race, but I don't know if she will be even be ready for that.

Hayley Preen was at the opening ceremony.  Maybe she is skipping the TT and will only do the Road Race.

  4. In the women's race, Evie is absolutely dominating.  Only a major mechanical will stop her from winning.

Isla Short seems to be fading.

Candice Lill is in fourth, and Im not sure how she's doing.  She seems to be dropping off.

Zoe Cuthbert I believe is better than I gave her credit for, and I think she might come second.

After that I don't think anyone else has a chance of getting a medal

Watch out for that long demon downhill on a gravel road with a few drainage cross humps; about 15km in maybe. It's claimed a victim or two in its time.

That hill got me in 2013.  My whole right-hand side was scraped, and i I couldn't straighten my arm for 3 months.  I also broke a saddle that was only 6 weeks old

  6. Brian Brummer has just arrived at RV3 now.

Kevin has been there for an hour.  After last years Munga he said, "I learnt that with a little more sleep I am actually quite fast", so maybe his plan is to sleep a bit, and then ride faster and catch up with Hansie.

  7. Take a gravel bike, there are so many more options if you have a gravel bike.

I have avoided trying to ride up Old Howick Road since they started the road works on the highway, because I'm sure the amount of vehicles has increased dramatically.

Old Howick and Sweetwaters Roads are really the only options to get from PMB to Hilton.  You can go up through the forests, from The Wykeham Collegiate, through World's View, up into Winterskloof, but the quality of the forest roads is not good at all (At least the last time I tried it)

You can also go up past Albert Falls Dam, and then up the Crammond Road, to the Karkloof Club, but that is a very long way around, if you're just trying to get to Hilton.

I've found that following Kevin Benkenstein on Strava gives me lots of ideas about where to ride around the Midlands: https://www.strava.com/athletes/1528061

Here is a loop through Bisley Reserve, that I did a few weeks ago: https://www.strava.com/activities/5946127486 (I got this one from Kevin's rides :D )  You can cut out the part along Old Howick Road.

You could also ride parts of the Burra500 route: https://www.strava.com/activities/5826823035

  8. This site is cool - why is it not more out there though.

Why are convicted dopers allowed to serve their ban and return to racing at events like nothing ever happened?

Tyrone White is a perfect example - on the site says served a 18 month sanction for an adverse analytical finding of Dexamethasone.

Yet the chap runs a cycling shop and coaches the youth of today

    It's just scary.

    Speaking of Tyrone White:

    https://community.bikehub.co.za/features/_/news/anti-doping-rule-violation-tyronne-white-r5959

This says he was banned from 14 December 2016 until 13 June 2018.

    https://inthebunch.co.za/2017/08/mandela-day-mtb-dash-results/

and this says he came fourth at the Mandela MTB Dash on 26 August 2017

Was his ban adjusted, or did he just decide to ride while banned?

  9. On the Munga Facebook page they said riders will be issued with permits.

While the Munga Grit rules had this: "Where two riders cross the line at the same time and be eligible for a prize, the race director will decide the method to determine in which order the riders place.", the Munga rules don't have anything about that.  Although the Munga rules still have the prize money values based on November 2019 prices, so I don't think they have been updated on the site yet, but updated rules may have been sent to competitors.

  10. Bumping this one up with a question.

I've ridden Bat Outta Hell before and I would love to take the lady down when we ride there.

Problem is.... elevation gain and distance. She just came out of recover from an injury.

I plotted route out on Trailforks and it's 50km with 1000m climbing. Definitely too much for us.

Is there a way to shuttle up? Or someone that offers this service?

The Lebanon climb, up to Bat Out Of Hell, is on SAPPI land, and you can not shuttle up there.

Karkloof have recently added a 50km route that utilizes some of the Howick trails.  There are still a lot of trails in Howick that are not part of that route.  A lot of the trails that have been used in the enduros start from the firetower, so you can ride down, then make your way back up to ride another one.  although it will be a huge amount of climbing to keep going up there to ride all the trails.

I will be away from Howick during the time you are here, so I wont be able to show you around.  I can perhaps plot some GPX files for you if you want.

  11. The Seaview Road can be a bit dangerous; the cars fly down there.  If you are looking for a quieter road, that is also quite flat, and can start from Grassroof, then cycle along Sardinia Bay Road.  You can turn around at Skoenies, or if you want to do a longer distance, go along Marine Drive.

  12. .... The iron throne bike park will also host the SA Enduro Champs later on in the year. With a number of SA firsts ... I can't say much now. But CSAs Gravity division and Charl and his team have something RAD planned. You won't want to miss it

I've just seen on Facebook that Enduro Champs are cancelled

  13. https://www.mapdevelopers.com/draw-circle-tool.php

Here's a tool to draw a radius around a point on a map.

    Set radius to 5.00

    Select KM in the dropdown

Navigate to your house, and click on it

Zoom out on the map to see the circle

I have a very nice route planned.  Midmar dam takes up about 1/4 of my allowable area, but if SAPPI allow us into the forest, I can ride almost along the circumference on one of the forest roads.
