  1. Save money on the balance bike. Spend more when they need brakes and pedals. I got one from GeeWiz for R500. My son rides it every day and it's held up great. Pull off all the Chinese stickers and put your own. My son gets to add a sticker to it every time he accomplishes something new, and loves it. https://www.geewiz.co.za/kids-bikes/176356-4453-12-inch-kids-balance-bike.html#/19-colour-yellow
  2. I think your first mistake was buying a CTD But seriously: at first it seems he has every intention of a return and refund. Mistakes happen and I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. If you were ghosted or sold a proper defective product without resolution, then I'd threaten a bad review and a rant post.
  3. The only thing I don't like about it is the "cheese grater" seat tube gusset. While I appreciate it for how it's accomplished, it's not practical at all. However, due to the magic of 3d printing that can be changed easily. Otherwise my Kingdom was the best bike I've ever owned and will get another in a heartbeat.
  4. Get a Marino. It will be a lekker exercise. Just be prepared to wait a bit as I believe they're a bit backlogged at the moment. Also note: If you can find someone who is also keen. The shipping cost makes provision for 2 frames in a box so you can share the cost. What's the going rate of a Mercer hardtail frame nowdays?
  5. Just get a Garmin. As a Suunto fan, I'm so peeved I got the Suunto 5 instead of a Garmin.
  6. Awesome. Looking forward to some feedback and your thoughts
  7. Time to petition for taller starting huts so he stops hitting his head on the way out. He's done it a few times I believe. Such a rad weekend. My dogs came running when I was shouting at the TV. Glad Greg got a win, nearly 2. Glad even though Bruni won the race, Walker walked away with the overall. Also, Troy Brosnan's run was sick! Sad about Greg's 0.17 Sad about Vergier's flat costing him the cup. He's been a machine.
  8. That is a very cool machine. Super envious that I don't have one in my kitchen at home. Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully I can sneak one into a office necessities budget of sorts. Holding thumbs.
  9. I need some thoughts on a new bean to cup machine for the office that isn't breaking any banks. Our overworked delonghi magnifica has bitten the dust and needs replacement. Probably does around 20 coffees / cappuccinos a day. Any thoughts? I don't think a industrial style machine is necessary, just one that's fairly reliable to stay on all day. Also doesn't need an employee with an inner barista. Just a "do you want decent coffee? Yes I do" button.
  10. Quick googlage shows cyclesharp and bike-addict for +- R5.5k. Neither of which I know if they have stock or an up-to-date price. https://www.cyclesharp.co.za/product/hope-tech-3-e4-enduro-brake-set/ https://bike-addict.co.za/products/hope-tech-3-e4-brake-set-excluding-rotors CWC has X2s for R5.9k and could maybe get E4s as well?
  11. Had Hope X2's on my previous bike: Not too much "bite" but felt great and were so predictable . Even at Haarties when they started to fade (because I'm a sissy and drag them the whole way down), they let you know so you can ride accordingly. Opposed to my current Guide RSCs that just decide on their own that after a long day they're done with slowing me down and go on strike, leaving me in the nearest bush. Also had the old XTs. Could never get them working how I liked. Bite point adjustment is more of a placebo affect on Shimanos. Hopes are full personal preference, but they just work, forever. Where are you thinking of getting them from BTW?
  12. Know where we can stream quali's?
  13. Biased opinion, but here goes: Call any OEM bike brand and see if you can do a factory visit for a demo bike trail. I don't think many would be able to accommodate you, but rather would put you in touch with a distributor/bike shop. Via bike shops, I've managed to test ride almost every full-sus Pyga there is (excl Mobu) and it was an simple call and go. Regarding their actual customer service attitude: Technical feedback has always been no-frills, to the point and more importantly quick, which I find great. In person, I've always had a positive welcoming experience. Once again. Biased Pyga-owning&loving opinion.
  14. Fox Ranger shorts go on sale often, and are comfy and quick to fit. I got mine for R750 a while back. One of the best things about the "trail riding look" is often I just throw on my helmet shorts and shoes and am out the door in 5 minutes. Rather than spending ages kitting and layering up, re-arranging my bits so I don't scare the children and stuffing things into the back of my cycle top that could potentially impale me. Other thing is a comfy helmet that doesn't brake the bank. Personally the IXS ones agree with my head and wallet.
  15. Grats, that bike is so hot! Pretty envious, I won't lie.
  16. For an absolute longshot: If you have mates that don't use their multiply discounts, you can get 25%-off discount vouchers for Cyclelab. (there's a 20k yearly spend limit, so you'll need at least 2). You would be able to get a 2020 Merida OneTwenty 700 for about R34k. It's quite kitted out But find out first whether you can use vouchers from different people *Taking no responsibility if it doesn't work out
  17. I was running my Vendetta X2 as 27.5. they can do either. Sorry skiet (and wife)
  18. Finally gave my lockdown balance bike project a go. Limited to what I had in the garage, so ended up as more of a prototype of sorts. Just need a longer rear axle and bar plugs so I don't core-sample my kid.
  19. I'm excited about this! Why am I excited about this? Well maybe some budget 4pot brakes.
  20. It's crazy out there: I put an IDT up for sale and get this within 2 hours: 3 more pages of it!
  21. Anyone have an update on the plans for the future of the Hartbeespoort track? Are they adding more lines? I did see there was a plan for an enduro event there. It's basically the same distance driving as Hakahana was. Just seems to be a matter of how developed it's going to get. If there was a mix of the DH track, some flow lines and features, you could easily spend an entire day there (or even a weekend). For now though I'm finished after about 4 runs. and slightly traumatised on a few occasions.
  22. There used to be pretty good trails there, and one hell of a downhill. Pretty sure it was closed due to serious safety issues. But yes, every day I do the Gillooly's flyover I wish I could do a few laps there (or anywhere else in the area tbh) Find a place, and the builders will come.
  23. This year is a tough one with so many top riders coming back from injury, as well as all the youngsters that are pretty mean at the moment. As well as the increasing popularity of riders jumping around to and from DH and EWS.
  24. Ragley mmmbop. Torn between one of these, a Nordest Bardino or a custom Marino frame for my next long term project. I'm itching for a playful hardtail again.
  25. Thanks a ton, I'll have a look later. I bought my drone in the US, but I'm not sure if it would have reverted to CE when I brought it this side. Still pretty confused about the 2.4 and 5.8ghz, 2.4 should have better range, not worse. unless it's purely the channel congestion and bandwidth that messes with things. I did find that when I changed the auto saving video to phone thing it helped a bit. Luckily I haven't had any crashes yet. Nearly hit a wave at one point, but that's about it.
