  5. Karl looks kinda smashed and Burry still fresh as a daisy! Go Burry
  6. Would definitely not call it pretty But there are many of those on the road. But it delivers big time on the coolness factor!! Awesome!!
  7. Its is an indication at best. Riding at the group's pace our club rides when I started I averaged above 165bpm often, last Saturday my avg HR was 135bpm and was setting the pace (3years down the line I must say) So yes it is a broad indication of your fitness, but cant look in detail at the numbers, eg use a formula because there are too many factors. - Health - Fatigue - Weather conditions - etc Do a lactate threshold test every 6 weeks or so, thats a somewhat better indicator.
  8. Guess my view is just I've always looked at energy as a whole, I've never focussed on carbs. I see all food as energy, but its important to understand the rate at which that energy is released into your system.
  9. Eeeeuw. hahaha I agree on the balanced meals, your body needs a whole range of nutrients to be healthy, but I think we differ on the whole carb story. Carbs are fuel, and too much fuel is bad, and fuel that messes with you insulin levels is bad. But you need the healthy carbs to maintain your energy levels, especially if you exercise. As for tapping the fat...I always wanted to get into the soap making business.
  10. Its not so much about just eating less but that you need a negative calorie balance to be able to loose weight, and that’s a law. So for people that don’t have the time available for long exercise sessions a similar calorie deficit can be achieved by eating less (though not as healthy). The trick to it is keeping things as constant as possible during the process, your insulin levels, input energy levels, even the energy you burn, and that’s as much physiological as psychological. So as Dangle says, small meals keeps your energy levels constant and less likely to dip and you end up binging! Riding lower HR levels, your body can break down body fat for energy without you requiring additional fuel.
  11. Stimulant does fiddle with your heart rate, so you should be careful combining it with cycling, BUT cutting your cycling is gonna make weight loss more difficult... There is no easy fix, burn more than you consume and you'll loose weight. Tips - - Do longer low intensity rides with just water - Reduce sugar, and increase lowGi carbs - Drink lotsa water, the whole day. It starts slow, but once you get the ball rolling the kgs seem to fall off. Good luck
  12. Got Joe Friel's training bible in March for my bday and the impact has been huge! Also follow his blog - http://www.joefrielsblog.com/ But been thinking about buying the dirtschool dvd for a while, will maybe lob it in with Racing weight! Thanks guys.
  13. Stick with the 26" duel, and if feel the need to upgrade get a good spec shock. If you have a HT, it can probably be done, but why buy one if you dont have to?
  14. Also at Silverstar for some fun, see you guys there!
  15. The Drake Equation History In 1960, Frank Drake conducted the first search for radio signals from extraterrestrial civilizations at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia. Soon thereafter, the National Academy of Sciences asked Drake to convene a meeting on detecting extraterrestrial intelligence. The meeting was held at the Green Bank facility in 1961. The equation that bears Drake's name arose out of his preparations for the meeting: As I planned the meeting, I realized a few day ahead of time we needed an agenda. And so I wrote down all the things you needed to know to predict how hard it's going to be to detect extraterrestrial life. And looking at them it became pretty evident that if you multiplied all these together, you got a number, N, which is the number of detectable civilizations in our galaxy. This, of course, was aimed at the radio search, and not to search for primordial or primitive life forms. — Frank Drake This meeting established SETI as a scientific discipline. The meeting's dozen participants — astronomers, physicists, biologists, social scientists, and industry leaders — became known as the "Order of the Dolphin". The Green Bank meeting has been commemorated by a plaque at the site. The Drake equation is closely related to the Fermi paradox in that Drake suggested that a large number of extraterrestrial civilizations would form, but that the lack of evidence of such civilizations (the Fermi paradox) suggests that technological civilizations tend to disappear rather quickly. This theory often stimulates an interest in identifying and publicizing ways in which humanity could destroy itself, and then counters with hopes of avoiding such destruction and eventually becoming a space-faring species. A similar argument is the Great Filter,[2] which notes that since there are no observed extraterrestrial civilizations, despite the vast number of stars, then some step in the process must be acting as a filter to reduce the final value. According to this view, either it is very hard for intelligent life to arise, or the lifetime of such civilizations must be relatively short. Carl Sagan, a great proponent of SETI, quoted the formula often and as a result the formula is sometimes mislabeled as "The Sagan Equation." The equationThe Drake equation states that: where: N = the number of civilizations in our galaxy with which communication might be possible; and R* = the average rate of star formation per year in our galaxy fp = the fraction of those stars that have planets ne = the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets fℓ = the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop life at some point fi = the fraction of the above that actually go on to develop intelligent life fc = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space.
  16. Or too dof to feel pain. Low IQ FTW!!! 2012 is gonna be a hectic year...
  17. The ones im doing in the next couple of months 3 Towers Sabie Experience Epic Joburg2C Will report back when they're done If you havent done one, opt for Sabie Lite. Good place to start.
  18. There - helped!!
  19. Funny - Bought my 500 bundle from Bikeinn and went smooth. Buddy of mine tried as well but as with Spinnekop due to lack of stock ordered from CRC with some other goodies. Package arrived today with the goodies, MINUS the Garmin...he's not the happiest customer today (understandably)
  20. Induna for me isnt about medals or waterpoints or anything other than the odd combination between laughter and tears. The 75 was a very hard route, and those uphills towards the finish just kept coming But what an amazing experience, the singletrack didnt disappoint, I was giggling around every turn, and to see Max fly past us a couple of km from the end was just sick! I'll defintely be back next year!!
  21. Yeah I see you can create it with the "Workouts" function on the Garmin Training Centre application
  22. OMW Parra, beautiful!!
  23. Thanks guys. Of Venice - (think i posted it earlier) More from that trip -
  24. Venice at night. Un-altered apart from cropped to remove overexposed part on the left. Big newbie at this...
