  1. I struggled 28mm tyres on my 2013 Giant TCR - more at the rear because of the brake arch clearance due to the height of the tyre. The front was less of a problem. Also, getting the wheels on and off was a mission because the brake calipers didn't actually open wide enough. This made me think that my bike was old and wasn't designed with these fat tyres in mind. Shimano did have a tall version of their caliper brakes: https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/shimano/BR-R451.html I don't understand how those would have helped as the mounting bolt on the frame dictates where the brake arch sits. Or, maybe they just opened wider.
  2. It seems like the CoCT did a blitz over the last few days. The Castle was also cleared (and also caught alight) and an area below Wynberg taxi rank (which was disrupted by gang related violence). Lots of displaced and angry people all over the place now.
  3. Hectic Glad nothing bad happened. Next time. take his keys and drop them off at the Cop Shop. (I hope that there isn't ever a next time...)
  4. Sheriff cleared them out and then a fires broke out destroying whatever was left: https://www.iol.co.za/capeargus/news/homeless-evictions-and-fires-sea-point-castle-tent-cities-burn-ffff50c6-04ee-4842-b4af-156ce3b1ac6a
  5. Is that your normal saddle height ? Or did you drop it for the photo or while you were riding ?
  6. In the age of internal batteries and wireless everything (except brakes), I cant help but feel that this system is a bit version 1.0 from 2015. Cool idea, but external cables and sticky-outie bits and separate mounts and non integrated bits are clunky. I am hoping that the next version is sleeker like @Kom wishes that it was.
  7. Indeed. But wait until the prices are released, and then check this thread blow up!
  8. It looks like there are holes underneath, so you probably need a mount like this But with a GoPro mount below. And then you need a light with a GoPro adapter (possibly the Bontrager Ion Pro) This looks like it ticks the boxes - not sure if they are available here though. https://k-edge.com/shop/road/k-edge-garmin-integrated-handlebar-system-ihs-combo-mount/
  9. I am not sure what the last few posts have to do with a motorbike speeding up the wrong side of the road and hitting a cyclist head on ? I hope that this isn't descending into victim blaming again...
  10. It's been a while since I have been up Ou Kaapse Weg
  11. There was an incident involving cyclists and motor bikes this morning on Chapman's peak. They closed the road for a while. Does anyone know anything more about it ?
  12. He hasn't brought new stock over in ages, so there isn't much available (depending on your size). It's a pity, as they are great bikes.
  13. Not missed. Mentioned above. But Ill take the opportunity to flex a bit Here's the frame he made for me : https://www.instagram.com/p/CbQATetq-Zm

  16. Remember this guy: 'kempekkernoglia' That deserves more than 31 days ! But then again, it was hard to take him seriously...
  17. That looks like the sensible version of Silca's computer mount
  18. Curve (Benky) had some Kevin of steel frames. https://benky-rides.com/products/curve-kevin-of-steel-iii-xl-demo There were a few steel Rondo frames - not sure if there are any left though. I have seen a few Standert bikes cruising, but have no idea if or who distributes them here. https://standert.de/collections/gravel-adventure I got my steel frame made by Dave Mercer. Not imported or custom, but his 'off the shelf' geometry. These look like fun. Dan Craven from Namibia (with a bit of help from Mercer) https://onguza.com/en-za
  19. The do carbon, alu and steel.
  20. Yes. lovely stretch! For the OP: The Keurboom Rd from the N2 is also nice, and you can do the climb from there up to the N2. It pops out near the top, thus cutting out of bit of the highway.
  21. Riding 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 abreast is annoying AF for the motorist. I get that. But its not those riders who are being mowed down. So, its not their safety that is really at risk. It would be interesting to take all the car vs cyclists collisions and analyse them for fault. Both my wife and I have been knocked off our bikes in a similar fashion to Pure Savage. Riding on our own with lights on the left of the road etc. The drivers all said that they 'Just didn't see us ! ' When you go for a ride, you say goodbye to your spouse as you jump on your bike and they say 'be careful out there'. You try and do most of the right things, but you rely heavily on all other road users to do their part by looking where they are going etc. Ask the guy that had 1/2 his leg ripped off by that drunk driver a few weeks ago. Perhaps riding like a tjop means that car have a better chance of seeing you. Its not the right thing to do. but...
  22. Some nice options. The N2 plays a role on most routes Having a GG does open things up a bit
  23. Road from Plett past the airport to the N2 is now tarred and is nice to ride. The stretch from there along the N2 back to Plett is not so awesome as you have Kwanokuthula to contend with. The R340 is also lovely from the N2 past Wittedrift and up the pass, but it turns to dirt after a few KM.
  24. That is awesome, but does require a bit of riding on the N2. Generally a wide shoulder, except for a stretch at the Crags. So, not too hectic
