  1. And share it to your family's calendars 😉
  2. This appears to be a helpful page for adding those dates here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_UCI_World_Tour
  3. If you suspect someone is acting dishonestly, please report them immediately. We will then investigate. There should be a button to do so on most pages. We work hard to minimise the impact of fraud but they do pop up on occasion. Mostly the community identifies them quickly and reports the user for removal.

  5. It's a great spot for road cycling. Just keep an eye on the wind forecasts like a hawk. The South Easter is serious in Jan. The South loops are a mixture of Main Road (Smitswinkel), Plateau Road, Scarborough, Red Hill: Simon's Town, Cape Point gate, Plateau Road, Red Hill and back is 30 kms with good climbing - or start with Red Hill if you want to get the climbing done first. Worth it for the views of False Bay, especially early morning. A 40 km out-and-back is Main Road up Smitswinkel to Cape Point gate, Plateau Road, Scarborough (coffee) and back the same way. If you get a rare windless day, also consider Cape Point Reserve and ride down to the light house. It's a hefty entry fee for visitors but well worth it for the experience. You can easily do 20km-30km with the loops in the reserve alone. If you want to go further, you can also push through Misty Cliffs from Scarborough but once you leave the last beach behind (Witsand) you're entering an area around Ocean View that has a history of attacks. These roads: Going North: the Black Hill, Sun Valley, Chappies, Hout Bay, Suikerbossie, Camps Bay, Sea Point, Waterfront strip is a very popular out-and-back route with cyclists. A lot more traffic than the Deep South but there is generally space and consideration. If you're only looking for 20-30km then consider parking at the Noordhoek Farm Village (a good spot for lunch too) and go over Chappies and Suikerbossie and back. It's mostly climbing but an iconic route.
  6. It seems that you found it. But in case anyone else comes across this thread, here's the full info page: https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/bike-hub-pay. The "How It Works" and FAQ sections should answer most questions.
  7. That'd be a good way to introduce these biking heathens to cycling's coffee shop stop traditions. I like it ????
  8. I'm all for ebikes in the CTCT. People on bikes is good. But reading the rules, your estimate is probably on the low side. It may also ease the concerns of the more fragile 3-hour racer crowd. Give it a read: https://www.capetowncycletour.com/race-entry-terms-and-conditions/ 3. E-Bikes/ Power Assisted Bicycles 3.1. Definition: In this clause the term “e-bike” means a bicycle that has pedals as its primary mode of propulsion and an auxiliary electric motor as a form of power assistance. 3.2. Should a cyclist wish to use a power assisted (PAS) bicycle in the Cape Town Cycle Tour only a bicycle which has electricity as its auxiliary power may be ridden. 3.3. Should a rider wish to partake in the Cycle Tour by using an e-bike, such rider must select the E-bike category when completing the online entry for the Cycle Tour. 3.4. If the rider failed to register in the E-bike category, he/she will not be allowed to partake in the Cycle Tour. 3.5. Any person riding an e-bike on the Cycle Tour that has not formally entered as an E-Bike participant shall be disqualified from this and future Cycle Tours. 3.6. An e-bike may only be used by a rider in the Cycle Tour if such e-bike adheres to ALL of the following requirements: 3.6.1. it weighs less than 30 kg; 3.6.2. it looks like a bicycle and accordingly must contain pedals which serve as the principal method of propulsion; 3.6.3. the auxiliary electric motor with which it is equipped has a maximum continuous rated power of 250W (or 0.25kW); 3.6.4. the motorised assistance only engages when the rider is pedalling, progressively reduces and finally cuts off as the vehicle reaches a speed of 25 km/h or sooner (i.e. no permanently powered bicycles); 3.6.5. it is fitted with a control mechanism that limits the maximum electric powered speed on PAS (power assist) mode to 25 km/h; 3.6.6. is fitted with all the safety equipment recommended, and/or required under South African road traffic legislation, for pedal cycles. 3.7. An e-bike rider may not start or attempt to start the event before his/her designated starting time slot. Any rider who does so will be disqualified with immediate effect. 3.8. E-bike results will be marked as such in the Cycle Tour results and may not be used as seeding for other cycling events. 3.9. Riders using e-bikes will not qualify for any prize in the Cycle Tour. 3.10. The fastest time that a cyclist, using an e-bike, may complete the event is 3hr 50min. Any e-bike cyclists recording a time of less than 3hr 50min will be disqualified. Some points on equipment highlighted in the rules above: 250W rating is on the weak side for an eMTB - the majority of eMTBs probably broke this rule. 25km/h is generally a MTB speed limit. Being a much faster sport, many road specific ebikes are limited much higher. Many ebikes for sale do not comply with one or both of these requirements. They might need to rethink these technical requirements or look the other way. In my mind, the 3 hour 50 minute disqualification should keep people mostly in check. Disqualifying and banning those that don't will thin them out quickly.
  9. Ah, sorry. That is no longer.
  10. Under the location map. Do you see this?
  11. We installed an update to the Forum platform yesterday. It's an icon that is usually removed by our costume theme which slipped through this time around.
  12. Ah, sorry. Didn't see that you are MTBing. I just assume road when I hear "riding club".
  13. From riding past them in the deep South, the 5F Cycling Club out in Fish Hoek appear to support a wide range of age groups and ability levels.
  14. Ya, we're on the same page. ???? "haven't always" is a nice way of saying "never" without having to comb through the teams' complete histories to account for anomalies. I simply listed the pro teams that have contributed to the competitiveness of the men's category as a comparison to the lack of similar support in the women's category. Because, as you say, women's cycling is super competitive but for various reasons Epic is an outlier for the level we hold it to. Let's not forget the achievements of the 2017 winners (otherwise the streak would be a lot longer)!
  15. Annika explained it in the commentary. Specialized seem to make it a priority and support and encourage top global riders to attend. Other teams haven't really done this consistently. Often they're more interested in World Cups and CX and in pre-season preparation. The Epic is an expensive and tiring distraction if your bread and butter is European World Cups. Teams that take it seriously on the men's side like Bulls, Cannnondale, Scott haven't always had the same female athletes to offer.
  16. https://www.cape-epic.com/downloads/EpicSeriesRulesv19-02-19ACEhighlighted.pdf Check out section 36. It appears to include frames. Not sure how these things work but maybe overwrites the general UCI rules?
  17. It wasn't yesterday. I'll check out today's photos. Photo: Nick Muzik.
  18. I've bookmarked this for the week: https://www.sportsplits.com/races/cape-epic-2021 It's the source for the results on the Epic site.
  19. This ???? Or hit the report button on the account.
  20. We're busying building a brand new Events Calendar. You'll be able to filter the listings by road racing in the province of your choice. Just give us a month or so more to finish it off.

  23. I bought a replacement strap for my Suunto Ambit on Banggood, a brand called "Bakeey". R388 all in. It arrived swiftly too. Over a year later and still going strong.

  25. We've asked for Forum discussions to talk about bikes. There are still some Off Topic discussion for the fluffier, less controversial topics. The threads we've closed have been beaten worse than a dead horse, adding zero value beyond frivolous entertainment for some. That's not an over the top expectation from a cycling Forum. We don't need any reminding where Bike Hub has come from. Surprise, we were there too. But in the past, we've been slack at moderating. This approach allowed a lot of things that are unacceptable to happen including many things we've been embarrassed to have attached to Bike Hub. It's not the vision we had for the website and we're paying for it by trying to correct that course now. We put a lot of ourselves into maintaining and building it. We want to be able to take pride in the content it hosts. In the process, we're going break some segments of the community and lose people. We've come to terms with that. If you want to have constructive conversations about cycling, then Bike Hub is the place. There is still lots of value in that. If you want somewhere to fill your day with locker room shenanigans and banter with the lads, it is probably no longer that place. And again, I think that's a reasonable expectation for a cycling Forum. Who knows, it might even make the community more welcoming and inclusive, and more popular than ever as a resource for cyclists. It also might not but at least we tried. And you are right. If Bike Hub were the forums alone, the servers would have been turned off years ago. The 'evils' of the Classifieds keep the lights on but we do see the value in the Forums beyond just the bottom line. This year alone we dedicated a couple months of development time (this means salaries and neglecting work on profitable projects) to upgrading the platform. It was a massive project and took a huge effort from the team. We did this because we still see the value that the forums add. To then hear that we've turned our back on it is a little grating. The Classifieds is thriving and we get feedback daily from those using it (spoiler: it's largely positive). We're really happy with it. Maybe there aren't as many bargains anymore but what's happening is not solely symptoms of the changes we've made. Cycling in South Africa has changed immensely since Bike Hub started and we'd like Bike Hub to remain relevant and be a part of it.
