  1. [emoji38] I was also wondering about these mythical ads they refer to.
  2. I also considered one of those drill adapters, but ended up making a jig for the bench dog holes. Get an auger bit - which I suppose you'd need in any case to get through a decently thick top. Make a jig by drilling a guide hole with your drill press in a nice hardwood block (I'd say at least 70 mm thick). If you can add a metal tube or bushing of appropriate diameter then it'll last longer - but the auger bit won't cut to much into the sides of the guide hole. Add stops to the jig so that you have a constant distance from the edge of the top as well as a pin to ensure even spacing between holes. That way you don't have to measure anything. Hope it makes sense. Edit, a picture is worth more.
  3. We have a higher end Jura and a cheap Breville at the office. At one tenth the price, and even with pre-ground, the Breville makes better coffee.
  4. Well it's not like this shithole offered him any of those opportunities.
  5. Just a word of caution, those 5Ah batteries are awesome, but heavy. It will kill your wrists if you work long hours in uncomfortable positions. Regardless, that's a good kit, but you can get it for even less here; https://hwconline.co.za/dewalt-dcd796p2-18v-drill-dw.html Get both. Bosch has a nice range, especially the 12/10.8V range, but Makita has the cordless palm router and biscuit joiner that I'm eyeing.
  6. To make you feel even better, I can almost guarantee you they paid less than the R35k. Edit, see Kranswurm beat me to it.
  7. If only they can make this beast weigh around 16 kg. It actually looks good.
  8. There’s about 70+ google easter eggs.
  9. “Ons gaan nou braai” has become the literal meaning. [emoji851]
  10. Wie’s 7h klaar gebraai op n Vrydagaand?#minwyntydenslockdown
  11. Depending on the wood specie, you’ll probably even destroy a 3hp Powermatic. If you do it in multiple passes and use a rip cut blade, 20-24t, you’ll put less strain on the motor.
  12. Very nice. And well done for doing it with a hand plane. A No.7 is nice for straight-edging long boards. Even works well on a shooting board to square up pieces. The dark wood looks like Wenge. Panga panga looks similar, but usually has a bit of orangey streaking in the grain pattern.
  13. Found some photos on my phone whilst looking for the above ones. Finished this dresser cabinet some time last year. It’s a bit of an experimental build to match the bedside tables. Yes, That’s clamping force flexing that top.
  14. I made a few iterations, before I was happy with the final look. Then, and now (2 years on).
  15. +1. Think those Toppings came out about 10 years ago and are still hard to beat for value and performance.
  16. Only way to reliably set up a sub is with in room response measurement.Check out REW if you want to go down the rabbit hole. Your AVR should have a setup mic that gets you halfway there sorting out the EQ. Placement is important and no regard should be had for your wife's decor arrangements. From there on you can play with EQ, otherwise it'll never give you the best results.
  17. Hope this one is queued to break in those drivers? Btw, are you a fan of high efficiency speakers? ~97dB sensitivity will make you favorites with the neighbours!
  18. Thanks. Yes, it's a single top. Initially I planned on a split top, but wasn't convinced yet. When I glued up the top I accidentally had one extra piece on the one half which messed up the perfect half-half split. My ocd wouldn't be able live with it, and being so heavy, ripping that piece off was not an option. So my decision was made by my own lack of concentration. I also prefer my chisels not to fall through any gaps. Dimension are 2000 (l) x 880 (h) x 650 (w) mm. I'm not very tall. I would say I'm more of a 'hybrid woodworker'. I like using a combination of power tools and hand tools for joinery. Usually most of the cuts are made with machines, and then finished to final fit with hand tools. I find planing table tops by hand very therapeutic, and reduces the amount of sanding afterwards - so for me it's more of a fit for purpose rather than the romantisizing the old tradition of working with hand tools.
  19. Yeah, I fully agree. If you’re going to spend enough time there do it proper and make it nice. I also scored a bargain on some Beech for my bench, think it was also around that price per cube. Although some pieces were seriously bowed and twisted. Excuse the mess, but it is a workbench after all that gets used and sometimes abused. The criss cross arms, at its widest it’s about 50 mm, and about 12 mm thick. I assembled it and never bothered to take it apart to blue the steel and make it pretty.
  20. That’s some luxury level workbench there. That’s a nice design. I tried something similar with 30 mm shaft and linear bearings, but there was too much racking, or lack of precision to make it work. Ended up doing the crisscross mechanism. First attempt used 6 or 8 mm steel, finally ended up beafing it up to 12mm which is now solid as wilton.
  21. Good job. I'm not fond on tenon/mortises. What wood is that, looks like meranti or some eucalyptus? Also, how are you doing the leg vise? Pin board or criss cross mechanism?
  22. Lol, you have to appreciate people's optimism.
  23. People complain about cycling, but you'll only be able to see your family and friends at level 1 again according to that draft document. Level 4 will probably last the whole of May (3 weeks minimum I say), then June level 3, and if we're lucky at the end of June level 2. Level 1 therefore, if no reverting back to previous levels, will only realize in July at the earliest. Anyone willing to bet money that level 1 will only be achieved by September?
  24. I have yet to see a good movie on Netflix. Tried this Thorbo meets Mumbo extraction...apart from the scenery and some action it was pretty much like every other Netflix movie...way below average. Note: I haven’t seen the Irishman yet, and I’m not sure if a I can commit 3 hours to a Netflix movie.
