  1. Yeah, but think about those poor orthopedists without income now, they need collar bones and ACLs to fix.
  2. No worries. I do have a complete workshop of woodworking tools, so some might not consider it true diy. When working with limited stock, in this case left over scrap wood, I try to maintain maximum dimensions of the lumber throughout the process, as apposed to just planing every piece to the same thickness and be done. Firstly square up two surfaces with the jointer, then bring it to final dimensions on the thicknesser and table saw. Tenons are cut on the table saw with the mitre gauge set at the right angle (99deg) and cleaned up with a chisel. The mortises I cut with the plunge router. I used expoy for these joints due to unsteady hands with the router and less than perfect fit. I still need to modify the router's base to make mortise cutting easier, but I'm now seriously just contemplating a domino cutter. On the cross braces connecting the 2 "A" frames I used 8 mm dowels as the pieces weren't long enough to accommodate the extra length for tenons. Drilling is done on the drill press, and corresponding holes are transferred with those little plug-pins. I might still just add a screw and plug it for extra security. Dowels are plenty strong for shear strength, but not so sure about the rocking effect. The seat/top is also made with slats and mortises/tenons due to not enough wood for a solid top, but aesthetically I think it works better. After glue up, sanded with P60, 120, and 240 with a random orbital sander. All edges are beveled with a block plane. Round overs on the step and seat is done on the router table with a large (think its 1" radius) round over bit partially extended to give that 'arc cove' effect. I used Sketchup this time to get the basis layout and dimensions. Usually I just sketch it out on a piece of paper, or use Rhino3D to model things that requires an extra visualisation, but my laptop is getting to slow for it.
  3. Lockdown project complete, a step chair thing for the workshop. Had to dig out every piece of scrap wood to make this work. Will probably just use whatever leftover sealer/finish I’ve left, most likely danish oil for easiness.
  4. Best channel on youtube. Comedy gold of dad jokes.
  5. Think you'd need a 4 jaw chuck to square up the mid sections if you're only going to use a lathe.
  6. Is that the queue to refill the oil or to fix the broken landy?
  7. My fold up work table goes up against the wall.
  8. A cross grained spline will work as well if you're paranoid.
  9. A stuk blou draad or a braai tang could've worked just as well.
  10. Urgh, this lockdown caught me off guard. Phoned the board shop earlier this week - sold out on birch ply. No mitre saw station build. Too late to design and plan a new project from hard wood now, and my jointer's blades aren't the sharpest either. Will see if I've enough scrap wood to make something. But I get lazier when I'm bored or without purpose, so I have at least stocked up on wine and beer if all else fails.
  11. So you're basically advocating we eat processed food instead. Where's Odie, I miss reading wHoLe-fOod-pLaNt-BasED!!!
  12. That region is sadly overrun with invasive species, pythons, tegus, iguanas, lion fish and cane toads.
  13. That’s a reticulated python, not a Burmese python which is invasive in FL.
  14. That poor retic was most likely trapped and slaughtered for its skin. Export quotas are around 150k skins/year each for Indo and Malaysia, and our pc liberal EU is the main market. Who knows what goes to China.
  15. Funny thing is he liked one of my posts in that thread. I screen grabbed it as I thought it was kinda hilarious, but don't really want to post it here. That thread turned a bit into a bullying toxic thing without ever having feedback from the OP or the accused.
  16. That's how you actually get jacked. Bulk for 20 years, then cut.
  17. I've seen way too many forums die out due to certain changes and people opting for facebook rather. Classified sections generally drive the forum visits and account for the majority of traffic. The rest that participate here on the forum is probably too small, and won't keep it afloat if the classifieds die out.
  18. My cat does exactly this with his chicken toy. Gonna have to find a toypom or a pug for him.
  19. Yeah, there was a few good saws on fb recently. Delta, Wadkin and some cheaper ones. Gumtree also brings up a few bargains; https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-power-tools/durbanville/10-34-table-saw-for-sale-+-toolmate/1006998154930910367090009 https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-industrial-machinery/mitchell-s-plain/table-saw/1006985652790911555670309
  20. Be careful if it's made of synthetic material. We lost our one dog due to the polyester fibers causing internal bleeding. It wasn't pretty.
  21. I'm weighing up Minimax s400p vs Laguna 18bx. The minimax is obviously the better machine, but it's about a domino machine more expensive, which begs the question is the other one good enough or noticeably less gooder?
  22. Anyone here have good knowledge and experience with bandsaws?
  23. It's a made in England version, so probably 1970s onwards i.t.o age, so definitely no collectors value there - no matter what some of these local sellers might tell you. Old doesn't mean collectible. If you're just buying it to work with then the max I'd pay for it is R400-500. You can then fit a new Veritas iron/blade rather and have a very decent work horse, although the standard blade will also do just fine. Just check for too much pitting due to rust on the blade that could affect the sharpened edge. I've an old 1913 USA type 4 No.7, but hardly ever use it. The No.6 is more versatile.
  24. I won't even acknowledge the message if someone just sends 'dibs'. State your intentions thoroughly with firm commitment. If I want something, I make a call and plan to get to the seller asap. I've scored tonnes of good deals, and most of them I got into my car to collect, or paid the person and arranged for the courier to collect. That way no one is left wondering what's going on and end up disappointed.
