  1. A point of interest who actually gets to keep the day license fees collected, is it the organizers, hosting club, provincial body or CSA?
  2. Guys it is wrong to expect cyclist to pay the day license fee upfront, this should be collected at race registration only as many cyclist will be joining clubs once there is clarity on the manner in which licenses will be handled in the future and at that point may be members of a club by then. Is there a process in place to refund such cyclist who have entered already and will be able to prove club membership come the Argus?

The lady behind the scenes. Thanks for been you.

  5. Please don't start another war if you cannot provide proper facts. If you have a written contract then you are protected from the so called wrong doing.Problem is most of the wannabe pro's accept word of mouth contracts then cry later on. A few months ago a lot was said about Minolta handling of some contracts and their members even suspensions, yet when the contracts were called for some could not be produced from the riders. You have a copy and your club management has a copy otherwise no deal.I wonder what type of managers/agents our pro riders have that some get themselves into such predicamnets. Thinking aloud: maybe time to get the association/union for riders of the ground properly this time around. I remember there been talk about this sometime ago.
  6. What the race organizers don't seem to grasp is that persons such as yourself actually make the race what it is and then they screw you because your cat does not have the required number of entries which they fail to notify you upfront about on the entries. Bet you they will never cancel the pro's monies.
  7. Each athlete that went to the games was the top athlete in his/her field of choice hence they represented the country or that is the way it should be. Questions on the cycling front. Was all the cyclists the best in our country(all Disciplines)? If so how much of the allocated R60 million rand was allocated to CSA for the preparation of our cyclists and over what period of time. Was this sufficient time and finances for such a task. Did these athletes get enough exposure to international racing in the fields of choice, was CSA's road map clearly laid out to the cyclists and was buy-in sought from their management/agents for their full co-operation and preparation for the games? You have to compete at the highest level if you want to stand a chance of winning a medal at the games, been the best at home does not mean you are at the level of the other athletes that race against oneanother at least once a month in Europe. An example is our long jumper how long has Elna had him compete in Europe over the past two years.
  8. Eddie is forgetful,New Horizons Cycling club(Orange train) Jozi is the safest place for a Sunday ride, we done the 94.7 route. Politics kept us out. How do you run an event in the townships and the club benefiting is a wealthy suburban club. Last year Bionic creamed R300 000-00 from the event. This year Letabo only offered R30 000-00 which you can see is a pittance. Wonder what they offered the other club as well. This is how the sport is taken for a ride by certain race organizers which commercially is their perogative to make a quick buck.Imagine how much of the prize monies they tried holding back for some reason or other, who's coffers does it actually end up in? What share of this money actually ends up in the community schemes? How does cycling benefit from this. it is easy saying what you want the public to hear via your website but to actually stand by what you promise is another story.
  9. Mandela bridge on Sunday morning
  10. Swift you hit the nail on the head after watching our ladies in the triathlon one wonders what must be done to have a high performance academy set-up for our sports people, The 11 million rand wasted on the Hotel showpiece would have been a great start though. I see Hendrik complaining as well, wonder why, he normally uses these races, even world champs as a build up to the New York Marathon and such where he gets good appearance fees let alone the race fee.
  11. Guys as in any sport there are rules, if you don't linke the rules then don't play the sport. You cannot expect the rules to be changed for you only, Imagine a beer poop bare chested on his bicycle riding in a race because there are not rules in place.

    Mr Wagenaar

For me personally, yes. I am now more aware of the HYPOCRITES we have within cycling as a whole, from here on I will just but ride my bike and spectate. Things said in confidence to certain individuals is public knowledge within the CGC walls, makes you wonder, now I can understand all the deals been made behind closed doors and why certain individuals will always have preference to the powers that be and us sh*t-stirrers have to follow protocol which does not exsist. I pain for the CGC president and treasurer who is in a sticky situation for been as TRUSTWORTHY as they were within the CGC halls, it has come back to bite them HARD hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel. By the way anyone wanting a laugh read the transformation and development document on the CSA website, then you will understand why some people volunteer their services, is it not amazing how you can blame the individual and clubs for not having a blueprint to work from maybe this reading matter should be sent to Buti and Cedrick for comment
  13. Well done Shaun,Please get CGC to see if their safety officer would be interested in working with you as I believe this could help strengthen your resolve with the Sport and recreation department as well

    Mr Wagenaar

Peanut Maybe this will get you to understand why the uncertainty with the CGC ranks. Since May the rumours were out and a resignation was received on 16/5/2008 yet todate no general meeting held with the Clubs to give first hand information as to what happened in the office and what ACTION IF ANY will be carried out is due course, now once there is speculation you will always have rumours. Who better to end all but the CGC executive by informing their members of what is happening within their ranks. This is the only official notice sent out on the CGC website: " Chairmans Chat 25-Jul-2008 To all CGC members, It is with regret that I report that we have uncovered certain irregularities within the administration of CGC One of the most important issues being addressed is the validating of the membership database, we have had to do a full reconciliation of the membership recorded on both the CSA and CGC databases. We have completed the reconciliation and have forwarded the data for population of the CGC database, we are hoping that during the course of next week it will be made available to member scrutiny. There are however still areas of discrepancy and will therefore require our clubs co-operation to finally correct the data. We ask our clubs to please forward their membership application lists to our office at their earliest convenience, Jackie from our office will contact the clubs that we need this information from, your assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated. The sooner we have this information, the sooner the matter will be finalised. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconveniences caused to all our members and ask that you to forward any queries arising out of these matters to Jackie Marais at the CGC offices. Warm regards, Giovanni Mottalini"
  17. May we know who you are faceless one as fools often cause distruction, always wondered why such persons never reveal themselves
  18. Wrong bud, it is those silly walking gov officials and their wannabe fun walk( another way of having a great piss up at the expensive of the taxpayer)
  19. Guys I believe Cyclesure has the best intentions of sticking to their policy however it is persons such as Mr Grey who make them look bad,It will be interesting to know if he is employed by Cyclesure or is he a independent consultant who thinks he can bully all and sundry. I recently claimed from Cyclesure and had the best service delivered from an insurance company in many a year.Within three days off first paperwork my full insured amount was paid into my banking account.
  20. Well done John Lee, you done your country and Barloworld proud yetserday fall included. Now that he has gained the respect of the peleton it will be interesting watching today's stage, will they allow him to make a break?
  21. As Andrew has stated he is no longer as selector, please update with relevant information. So Jv/d Berg and who else made these selections? May I suggest as I have been trying for the past few months CSA to delegate more powers down to the provinces and then the provincial selectors and management can then more closely monitor their cyclists when the events are held in their areas. The managers/selectors in each province has in any case got a clearer picture of who is on form and riding at the required levels for selection to the national squads. From all the provincial selectors you have each province nominate their chief selector to sit on the national selection panel and bobs your uncle, no ugly disputes as you now working with known factors. Use it don't use it. "Selectors Road Thursday, 06 December 2007 Elite Road Tony Harding Koos Van Tonder Peter Daniels U23 Road Tony Harding Koos Van Tonder Elrick Kulsen Junior Road Ciska Austin Rodney November Clinton Curtis Women Road Marillyn Rossouw Alex Cooper (Appointment to be made on 31st May) Veteran Road Andrew McLean Jan V/D Berg (Appointment to be made on 31st May) Last Updated ( Wednesday, 21 May 2008 )
  22. Wonder why our cyclists are not on par with the rest of the world, well if our top coaches and managers have the attitude that says look after yourself and those whom you stand to gain from then we will stay doomed. In conversation with some respected cycling persons a few weeks ago this was made clear hence the attitude within our cycling fratenity is in such a mess when it comes down to national teams and selections. One looks at what our best lady junior done at SA's to the opposition on the track and road and yet the moment of truth arrives and she cannot maintain mixing with the rest of the world why( She has all the resources available to her and some of the best coaches helping her as well- JL and JP) Gadi( Also has the resources and coaches) proved himself as one of the best around in SA on the track yet he has not reached the potential of the top guys in the world.(Winner of the Hern Hill trophy as well). Now look at persons such as Sifiso, Burry and Cherize who has had the opportunity of training at the UCI academy and see where they are and what they achieved thus far does it not send out a message that we need more of this happening to our cyclists to prepare them for top level competitions and that CSA should have a properly constituted academy for grooming our future champions in all disciplines. If JP can achive results for the Zambians,Kenyans, Namibians in his academy why not for SA as well or is it about the greed the agents and managers has for their cyclist and the lack of interest from our national body. Imagine Nolan Jamie Gadi been enticed and eager to compete on the track at the highest level and on par with their peers would this not set a platform for our juniors to aspire for the same knowing their is a plan in place to get them onto the next level. So to the coaches managers and financiers stop talking and pool your resources and knowledge and get out future stars onto the world platforms.
  23. Great Pantani now we need you to come over to the West Rand Carwash for the boys to drool over the machine whilst downing a cold frosty.

    CYCLESURE

Morning all One always hears about insurance claims etc good and bad, well today I must say I am stunned at the EXCELLENT service delivered by CYCLESURE. I crashed at the end of June at HNP track and suffered some damages to myself and equipment. On Friday 11/07/2008 at 15H45 I submitted a claim to Cyclesure(Annelize Harding) dealt with it and sent some paperwork through as well with a quote for the damages. This morning at 10H00 received notification from my bank that money has been deposited by Cyclesure into my account. After reading some stories with regards claims made I am totally convinced that every cent spent on my policy is well worth it as I have now witnessed it myself. Keep up the good work Cyclesure, I will recommend this service to all and sundry.
  25. Interesting line from Chunky the past four weeks I have heard this statement from many a top cyclist/manager/agent. "In cycling the first thing you learn is worry about yourself and nobody else" One of our top junior ladies father made the same comment whilst preparing her on the track last saturday as well. Now I understand the reasons behind the apathy to have provincial/national academies set-up for the enhancement of local talent. Only invest where you know a return on value will be given to you either financially or personally.Surely Rob discussed this issue with management when informed of his selection.
