  1. OH THE IRONY So carrying a basket of firewood 6m makes you hard? My Samajoor in basics would have this little softcock crying in 10 minutes. And believe me I had it easy in the army. My generation is actually to blame for this. We were so afraid to discipline our children so they've never heard the word No. We handed out medals for 17th place so our kids have never had to taste the bitter pill of defeat. We've raised a generation of entitled pussies
  2. Yes. People generally think that FTP only ever goes up.
  3. If I was doing 100+ down Kloof Neck on a bicycle I think my HR would also be sky high.
  4. Just a note about the correct name of a surf spot. The high tide beachie to the north of the Long Beach main peak. It offers up nice tubes at high tide and the odd ramp. Especially if the swell is a little broken up. The name of this surf spot is NOT Kraans,Krans, Craans. It's Crons. The name does not come from the chronic nature of the takeoff or the kraans that you drop into. It comes from the name of the old Crons dairy which was owned by the Cronwright family, located where the Valleyland shopping centre now is. Their dairy herds used to float between Sunvalley and where Immoff's farm is now. And surfers would often spot the herd on the way to Long Beach.
  5. All good. Luckily it's mostly empty space in there. I can feel there's swelling in my ear and a bit of "tenderness" between my ear and jawbone but that's about it. These things are good for you. You have to know you aren't made of glass and there's only one way to test that. I think it's time to reacquaint myself with Dunes
  6. His surname sounds like the noise my city golf used to make when I went over a speedbump.
  7. A road bike is sketchy as hell at speed. I'm super careful. When I see the clowns that can hardly ride in a straight line coming down Suikerbossie busting out the Froome tuck next to buses and trucks I can already see the headline. In the past one of my fave things to do in Morzine was pick off roadies on the descent into Morz from Avoriaz on my big ol DH bike. They didn't like that.
  8. So....10 hours is impressive. But it's not exactly mind bending. What's he going to do with all of those left over calories?
  9. Loving the surfing. Missing my surfing mate man.
  10. I got my bell properly rung on Saturday. Yassas. I think I was lucky not to pass out and thank goodness i was wearing a hoodie. Pulled into a barrel at Crons and my board got sucked out from under me and bliksemmed me in the side of the head. Dizzy. Game over. Home time.
  11. HA! You see. You made me look again.
  12. So.... I always seem to find myself drifting back to Rouvy. I canned my Zwift subscription hoping to use the free version of RGT during the summer months. But on Saturday (it was bucketing down here) try as I might I just could not finish an RGT ride. Stelvio wouldn't load and the Pienza route. Ag. Sorry I just can't with RGT. And most of the roads and workouts aren't free anymore. I did try. Also while I'm having a whinge I don't think Zwift's gradient is correct at all. Yes I do have the trainer difficulty set to 100%. I can't do a 6% climb in the big ring IRL but I can in Zwift. I don't like that. Aaanyways. Back to Rouvy it is. I'm not loving the AR app and no ANT but I guess they'll get that right in a little while. I'm 600km behind my cycling yearly goal so I'm gonna be on the pancake flat stuff for the next little while.
  13. 2 legendary okes in one pic.
  14. I'm gonna buy a 3/2 next month (I'm only allowed 1 spoil a month) I hate 4/3's and I've got a chicken vest and I've got booties and gloves (Giro winter cycling gloves) sorted. So what is the consensus for ear plugs? Before constant ear infections drive me back out of the water. Do I invest in R1000 ear plugs or do I get the R50 boys from the pharmacy?
  15. What is Buffs? Buffels Bay? There's a left as you come in off the N2. That place gave me a very bottom of the food chain feeling when I was out there. Only surfed it once but it was pretty wild and woolly.
  16. Got some today
  17. No surfers. Long Beach is the furthermost South you can go on the peninsula
  18. That's in the reserve. The only people in there are the surfers and cyclists.
  19. Get one of these too. Or something similar. You just plug it in to the usb port and done. I've got a usb splitter on my thing coz I have a HD and mouse connected too. https://www.takealot.com/volkano-control-series-smart-tv-remote-control/PLID54854452
  20. Slater is 48.
  21. Good shorts are #1. You can get reptilia shorts from Enjoy for R585 if you aren't too fussy about the color. I have a pair in black and they are the best riding shorts I've ever owned. Great cut. just the right amount of stretch. Yes they don't have the cache of TLD or Fox but they are great and I'll buy more. No liner tho but that's what your old bibs are for right? https://enjoy.cc/product-category/mens/ride/shorts-bibshorts/ The ciovita ones are also nice but are around R1300. But a really nice pair of riding shorts. I reckon you can even wear them casually and not feel like a total turd.
  22. I tried Fulgaz. The reason I abandoned it almost immediately is coz the power readings were way off. I was kaaaaaaking. Probably pushing out 400w and the Fulgaz was saying I was doing 150w. And the video I was on (Luz Ardiden) kept jumping and pausing. It's highly likely the issue was more a function of my trainer/network that the ap. My pain cave isn't right next to the router and I do sometimes experience slow connection. I enjoyed Rouvy for a long time before switching to Zwift. The only reason I switched to zwift in the first place was coz my Sani partner was insistent that Zwift is the be all for training and anything else is just pushing pedals in front of a tv. I agree with most of your assessments. Rouvy is definitely not perfect and does seem a little scattered. But I don't think any of them are perfect TBH. When it comes to the subscriptions I prefer to go month by month. That way I'm not married to a specific app and I can bounce between them for roughly the same mount of $ each month. The only downside is it will take longer to get the tron bike.
  23. Wow. Nice for you. I think I'm going to can my Zwift subscription this week. I enjoy the structured workouts but the cartoon aspect and the same old same old visuals have me watching youtubes while I do the workouts. I enjoy Rouvy. Somehow the POV views and setting a virtual rabbit to chase allows me to go harder. But Summer is coming, I've got nice new carbon wheels and Suikerbossie is 300m from my front door so maybe a little more IRL with the freebie version of RGT for when it rains will be my go to.
