Ensure that the front chainring and cog are in a straight line, sometime you can do this by eye, else use a straight edge, piece of wood or something. If they are not, as soon as you start pedaling the chain will come off the cog.

 

Enjoy the simplicity of riding without having to worry about gears and the huge grin it generally brings

You use a normal wheel and replace the cassette with a SS cog and spacers, the coloured spacers in this pic, (red, gold silver etc) are used to position the rear cog in direct line with the front chainring. You then use the tensioner as shown to take up the slack and keep the chain tensioned.

 

Sometimes you are lucky and if the gear ratio you choose with the frame dimensions, the chain may fit tight without the need for a tensioner and this is known as the "magic gear"

I have an issue that I'm trying to solve in the least ghetto way possible.

The frame was built for mechanical disk brakes. No provision was made a hydraulic hose.

 

I had a similar problem on my SS roadbike (the frame doesn't have cable lugs at all), so I did a bit of research and drilled the frame. Now granted it is a roadbike, so a lot less stress on the frame but I do ride like a hooligan, jump curbs, stairs etc, and the frame hasn't broken yet... I have done around 200km since doing it
