It is super super smart actually. I'm sure there would be a regulation that says you're not allowed any adjustments via electronics or hydraulics. And in the end it's actually a very simple system. I love things like this.

Interpretation of the rules is so important. It's similar to Ducati's scoop in MotoGP last year. The rule said you're not allowed to affix aerodynamic devices to the swingarm. So they said it's a cooling device for the rear tyre, which coincidentally also might possibly have aero effects. Smart.

My favourite kind of hole is a loophole.

I wonder if this is not take the others teams eye off the ball - there are theories as to what the DAS does, but nobody really knows. And as pointed out by Merc themselves, there are thousands of pieces of new tech/innovation going in their car. And will you reveal your most innovative part of the car in the first week of testing, or save it for later?

Are there benefit from DAS - probably. But I think there is something else on their car.

Art of deception?

Oh absolutely. I recon the same thing is happening with Ducati to some extent. You often see some VERY obvious changes, speculation runs wild in the paddock and resources are allocated to figuring out what it is, what it does, and whether it is advantageous. Diverting resources away from actual issues.

However, I do think that race teams are smarter than us and the media, and have way more insight into these things to make accurate judgement calls. I recon most of the F1 teams are not too phased about this development from Mercedes, as they possible have much bigger issues to sort out than to try and chase a further 0.01s a lap with a funky toe corrector. I mean, I could also do absolutely nothing for all we know, and there could be a secondary thing going on.

On the other hand, you have Ducati arriving with aerodynamic wings on their bikes, and now everyone has to have them. So it does trickle down with time I guess.

I think it's time for a career change...

It is a lot easier to make that call in a McLaren than it would be in a competitive car..................

Sounds like Lewis doesn't want to leave his hotel room. I wonder if Toto can still fit in a car
