They exist. My neighbour has one that he doesn't care about. Moerse groot ding. Fruits extensively every year. 

do you live next to us?? We have an avo tree and get between 100 and 200 avos each year. Not as nice as the fuerte but not complaining.

What's the price down there in the cape roughly? It's about R18 for one here at the moment. Unless you get them on the side of the road - R20 for a bag of Natal butter avos. 

I've become a woolworths avo snob - i bought a couple of those Natal avos in the past - they're icky. I end up throwing away more than I use, but with the price atm - i'm off avos.

Check out the small hard avocados at checkers and spar. The price range between r35 and r45/bag (normally 5-7 in a bag) pop them in the fridge and take two out the same day as purchase. They ripen up in 2-3 days. After you've had the first whip out the next. It works for me. I can't be without that mushy yellow/green delightfulnes. hmmmm avo.

do you know the little pull out the little thingie on top to let it ripen, if you don't it won't ..I only learnt that recently.

 

and I have a very yummy chocolate vegan tart recipe made with avo - hmmmm yum :D
