I won't nitpick that it's an F-15 in that picture... ;)

(Still a valid comment about the F-14's though)

I'd kill for a flight in any of them, but given a choice, the F/A-18F would be it.

whilst we have the airplane buffs in the house. is it just me or does it seem like SAAF at ysterplaat are flying their old planes a lot currently? i seem to see these sort of things in the sky a LOT

Sorry, looking again, you are right, by bad. At a glance, I though it saw swept back wings...well whoops. F15 still cool, but not Iceman cool ;)

I used to play the F19 MicroProse Sim on my first 386, and I would do 3-4 hour recce missions, the scream of the engine over those crappy pc speakers would drive my folks insane!

Holy hell, I remember having that simulator as well.

I know twin brothers who build professional simulators, and they have a Mirage F1CZ simulator in their garage, certified by Dassault.

If you know who Arthur Piercy is, the sim is built in the nose of the F1CZ he had his crash in.

EDIT: http://www.dooley.co.za/arthur_piercy.htm (Story with the simulator)

Talking simulators, I helped out on one of their projects for an Air Traffic Control simulator that's sitting at 43 Air School in Port Alfred.

I had a 386 as well, but I remember playing Jazz Jackrabbit on it, lol.

Also played the F19 but found that it was a tad boring as it was a fictional aircraft.  Microprose started with the F16 Fighting Falcon Simulator in pretty much the same time.  But the emphasis was on the F16 and to be as realistic as possible.  The 1st Version was a pirated copy that I got hold of.  The second version I managed to buy and was a huge improvement on the first.  A few years later I stumbled on the fact that a 3rd version was out overseas but not available in SA.  Managed with great effort to buy a copy and delivered to someone I knew in Sweden who then via a work contact brought it in to SA.  It was astonishing how realistic that simulator was.  I spent hours and hours on that game.

A F15E Strike Eagle to be more exact ;)

I watched this IMAX doccie. It is EPIC on a grand scale.

What I would give to just one time be in the rear seat of an F-15E as it blasts down the runway, takes off at full afterburners on those two monster jet engines, and get rocketed at breakneck speed straight up to 55000m, touching the fringes of space. All this in about the same time it took me to type all this, and click Post...(well, not quite, but darn near enough)

Jeremy Clarkson also did a doccie on the F15. Doesn't matter if you like him or not, I like that program.  They took him for a flip in a F15.  Jeremy was as sick as a dog as het got out of it and could barely walk.
