I understand that the unit can stay underwater for 96hrs. I have a feeling right now that they will pay whatever it costs to get out of the thing justinafrika

Nah, a ridiculous grade-A exercise in financial masturbation. Reminds me of Bezos’ pointless sub-orbital flights in his dick shaped aircraft. I think it is more about the "act" of actually going down and the process around the experience vs actual sight seeing.

Last tweet I just saw said around 60 minutes of oxygen left. Yoh! It does not sound like this will end well. Like someone on twitter said, There are millionaires down there that would give up everything and trade places with your poor self right now. Of course you’re right in that regard, I’ve enjoyed many massively more modest adventures as most of us here have done. The calibre of knowledge of the passengers-adventurers means they must have known that OceanGate’s CEO resisted all attempts to get him to have the craft classified by submersible ratings orgs like ABS and DNV and the Lloyds Registry. It turns out quite a few clients pulled out due to safety concerns. The Manned Underwater Vehicles Committee of the Marine Technology Society had formally written a warning letter to OceanGate that their approach “could lead to disaster”. A The Simpson’s writer and producer said yesterday that the submersible lost all communication, among other serious technical issues, on each of his four trips on board. I guess it will be small consolation for the friends and families that one of OceanGate’s former associates said today that the deaths will have occurred within “milliseconds” of the implosion.
