I always move towards the middle of the road (clearly indicating) before I get to a narrowing circle. Some cars just don't have patience and I have been squeezed out a few times.

I have a similar gripe with cars overtaking just before a sharp corner... they slam on brakes and not to crash in the back of them I have to slam on brakes to or come next to them... grrrrr!!!

Funny you should mention that. The complete scenario from this morning's commute was that I got squeezed in the circle and had to take evasive action as I exited, only for the car that did the squeezing to then stop suddenly 30m after the circle and indicate to turn right. You know that thing some motorists do when they want to turn right and then take up all the space on the left?

Again I had to take evasive action, and for my efforts, I was the one that got a fist waved at me when I did my "WTF" face...

I have this little mountain pass towards the end of my commute where I drop down a couple of meters in a fairly short distance.  The problem is that a road joins from the side just before the pass starts.  So cars would come and rush out in front of you as they normally misjudge my speed there and then the idiots often hold me back going down the pass.  Once had a guy on a motorbike who though he was going down the road quicker than me.  It p!ssed him off immensly that every time he looked in his mirror I was right behind him.

It's a circle. Ponder this for a second, if you knew nothing about how you're meant to drive/ride a circle, with appropriate signals, I defy you to watch a circle for 10 mins and determine the rule set from the behaviour on display! Shameful really....

The way circles work in Somerset West is all traffic must yield to the right (which is what the law says). However, we've added our own interpretation. Instead of yielding to the traffic ON the circle coming from the right, we yield to traffic approaching the circle from the right. And if you happen to be on someone's right you just drive straight into the circle without slowing down, knowing that the suckers on your left "have" to yield.

So, in essence, a circle in Somerset West is just a glorified 2 way stop, with the cars approaching from the less busy roads always yielding to the cars from the busier roads.

It's taken me 15 years to figure this out and adjust my routes accordingly so that I don't approach circles from the quieter sides!

It is difficult to commute when you stay at your place of work....

I stayed 16km from the farm in town. I thought now that I live on the farm, I will have more time to train. Not the case. It takes much more commitment

I'm so done with my Maxxis Detonators. I need to get something else that is not going to cost me more than 300 Rand. The other day I smashed my hand pump to pieces because there was another piece of debris stuck in the rubber and this morning I was whipping the wall with a tube. Not the most constructive bike rage, I know. Any tips? I feel that I have to get Gatorskins again, but that's over 1K for a pair. Bit much.

Blaauwberg Road cycle lane between Myciti bus stops "Wood" and "Circle" was covered with broken bottles this morning. I counted at least 8 broken bottles. Ive raised a notification to COCT to have it cleaned up but watch those tyres!

Sometimes the weather report gets it right.

There was a break in the rain in Gauteng this morning so I commuted, and arrived at the office looking like a drowned rat...

I've got kit over all the aircon vents in my office... haha

I is amazing how quickly soggy clothes dry out in that aircon stream.
