So, who in Cape Town commuted by bike today? Just thought I'd ask that quick question to determine who the toughest biker after Frail is!  ;)

Saw a guy training up Suikerbossie about 45min after the storm hit this morning. Kudos to that guy for dedication

Me. Will be a straight ride home and not the normal G Spot detour (too much respect for Mark's work to go wreck it for a short rain ride). Got my high viz Jonson work ware reënklere, Hope it's as waterproof as advertised.

Hopefully the reenklere are breathable otherwise you will be wetter than without it

I only wear rain jackets when it is fairly cool to cold as otherwise I get more wet sweating than getting wet from the rain.  I do pull over rain covers over the shoes just to protect the shoes from dirt but in heavy rain they still get wet.  We have had our fair share of thunderstorms in the afternoons the last couple of weeks and must say that it is actually very pleasant to ride in the rain.  Just the first couple of kilometers in the city is a bit stressfull as braking distances is a problem but as soon as I head out of town then I can relax.

so what did I learn today ?  :w00t:

ACT YOUR AGE !  dammit .... you are fifty not fifteen ....  :whistling:   :cursing:

Left work and was ENJOYING my commute ... hop onto the pavement, about 150m, then back onto the road and a nice commute ....

WOW ... getting ahead of myself here .... midway in that pavement section I have to hop off the pavement for a short section ....

nice day ...

perfect weather ....

me, myself and I having some fun on the bike ....

And I do a mini-bunny hop off the pavement (straight forward), maybe 100mm step down ....

and the next moment I am falling like I have not fallen on a trail before ....

front tire burped !

no mark on the cycling shorts, but some nice roasties on the skin ...

shoulder feels okay ....

the grip on the handlebar now sports some battle scars ....

Scratches on the front light ... it twisted and actually ended between the handles and the tar ....

Think my ego took the worst punch.

PS - actually checked the tire pressures before the commute, as I has to inflate it for the previous commute.  Very narrow rims, lots of sideways movement on the tires - second set, slightly less movement than the previous, still dont like it .....

Glad you're OK!

My dual and hardtail usually share a front wheel because the hardtail's front tyre is waaaay past its due date. The dual was in for a service, so I commuted with the hardtail yesterday - with the very warn thin bubbly front tyre. It was one of the more nerve-racking rides I've had in a long time - especially on downhills, knowing that the tyre could burst any moment.

Took the car today - will have the proper wheel back tomorrow for a safer ride.
