I am new to the site and looking to buy my first MTB, i asked for some advice on the forum and got some good advice.

So i am prowling the classifieds section looking for a bike, so i find a guy advertizing a Cannondale Prophet, asked the guy (he has 0 posts on the hub, only the for sale add) some questions about the bike, he measured 2 things for me on the bike, and i was interested. So i asked him to PM me his address and contact number so i can send a family member over to check out the bike for me. Since that question of mine, the add has disappeared, as well as his add on gumtree for the same bike, and i have not gotten any pm with address or contact number...

What do you guys think??

He could maybe have sold the bike?

but then I would have responded to the PM and said 'Sorry, sold'. Disappearing off the radar like that just says scammer / stolen to me.... maybe it's just me though....

One of the main reasons I ignored all advice to buy 2nd hand and went new. At least when buying from a physical shop it is a lot more difficult, if not impossible, for them to do a runner.

I've bought lots of bikes second hand, as well as plenty of parts off the hub. Just like most avenues of life, there are dodgy people amongst the good ones. Don't take it so personally, just move forward and look for another bike. You can get loads more second hand than new. Rather than mess around with PM's all the time just ask the seller for a cell number and call the person. That way you can suss them out, ask as many questions as you need and make a decision from there. It's a bit harder to buy a second hand bike if you are not able to view it personally, so I try to shop second hand in my area.

Good luck with your search. What are you looking for by the way? Surely you can do better than Crapindale?

The glass is half full...

Every site has it's dodgy folk,

Gumtree, the hub and e-dirt...

The glass is half empty...

Interesting how different people take the same info and come to different conclusions. Just an observation ;)
