So, I lost some traction, gravity won and I now have a nice roastie just below my knee. Any advice on the treatment or anything that I can do / put on it to speed up the healing? What do you guys usually do / use?

Take a bath with some Detol added, stings but cleans! clean wounds heal faster...

I fell of 7 weeks ago, and a roastie on my ankle got infected. Go to dischem, get some Intrasite (Clear gel) and a tegaderm plater (its like aclaer plactic film) It is what thegave me in casualty. they said I may need a skin graft, but a week of the above and its sorted!!!

Firstly determine how deep the grazes are.
Get Betadine ointment and apply that to kill of any infection.
Get Sorbalgon or Hydrofilm type plasters and stick that over the wound.
Keep it moist.
I had a gentle lie down on the day of the 94.7, what looked like regular roasties turned out to be a hole in the front calve muscle and three deep lacerations, it took 5 weeks to heal.

Cape Union Mart sells a mustard bath salt! (about 70 bucks for a relatively big tub)

Smells great and burns like hell, but awesome stuff!

Dangle, your roastie is definitely worse than mine! I've always thought that I should let it dry out and form a scab rather than keeping it moist. Guess it depends on how bad it it and what kind of wound?

@ Pietervdw: I've heard Savlon is better than Dettol because Dettol may kill white blood cells.

What I thought at the time was a roasty turned out a lot worse :(

I couldn't walk by putting my heel down on the ground and the pain was immense.

Luckily for me, I am married to a wound care specialists

Clean it properly and apply a good anti-septic cream and then cover with a (i forget the correct name) clear plastic wound cover like a second skin. The pharmacy will know what to give you. Once on you just leave in place for about a week. My son was covered in roasties after he fell on the track last year, treated him this way and he was fine, hardly even a scar to be seen.

It will look ugly during the healing process but will feel a lot better than letting it dry out and form a scab. If the cover comes off before the wound has healed just clean and repeat the process.

opsite flexigrid is also a clear plastic breathable dressing. I used it on a deep roastie on my elbow and it stayed on for a week and when I took it off, the skin underneath had healed well and there was hardly any scarring (cleaned the roastie first with antiseptic solution and a nailbrush and put a thin layer of bactroban on)

Opsite Flexigrid or Tegaderm covering from Clicks or Dischem is all you need. Don't let the roasties dry out or form a scab. Clean up roasties and apply the covering. Leave it on for about 5 days and recover thereafter if neccessary. You can shower/bath with the covering with no hassles.

Intrasite gel is only recomended for wounds that have slough( the mucous oozing type liquid) in. Get hold of some Inadine dressings. Its a parafin gauze dressing impregnated with Betadine. Can be left on for 3 days covered by a bandage or an oclusive dressing like tegaderm which is quite pricey. Make sure you keep it clean before applying dressings. If you are a bit squirmish when cleaning it buy some Remicaine jelly. Its a local anaesthetic that you rub on leave for a few min and then use a surgical brush with cleaning solution to wash. You wont feel it this is especially good when cleaning immediately after falling.

Is Jellomat the dressing you are referring to? have found this ,with a bandage wrapped around, to work well when sleeping...stops all the sticking to sheets etc.
